had a MMC end of april and AF finally arrived today.

i had a medically managed miscarriage and it was quite straightforward. but the nurse advised us to not ttc until after i had had 2 periods

obviously, i don't really want to wait much longer :( and i can't really see any reason why we would need to wait so long?

did anyone else ttc straight after the first af?

Sorry about your MC.

I went back and asked the nurse at the EPU why I had been told to wait for 2 periods before TTC as I was finding it difficult not to- it just felt like time was slipping away from me.

Anyway, the nurses response was that it is suggested this way so that I can recover emotionally.

To which I thought, sod off, I'll decide when I'm ready emotionally, not you!

(As I'm sure you know, it is medially advised not to TTC before the first AF as it makes dating a subsequent PG more difficult). As you have had your first AF I'd go ahead when you feel ready.

Good luck TTC again, i'm also trying, I hope we bump into each other on an antenatal thread x

We did but were advised to wait as well (we were told that the womb lining would probably not be thick enough after the first period to sustain a pregnancy).

Anyhow I didn't get pregnant that time- it took 9 months for that to happen, but I am now cradling my baby. He was worth waiting for and all the tears I shed.

Hope all goes well.

PS Sorry for your loss. It sucks doesn't it.

MoodyDidIt · 02/06/2013 18:10

awww nickname congrats :)

and good luck ttc petra

yeah the nurse never even really said why, she was quite brisk about it all, and i wasn't really in a fit state to question her at the time :(

so i think we will just start again after this one. i have been taking preconception vitamins for the last couple of weeks so am hoping that helps a bit

Go for it moody if you are feeling ready; we only waited for one af and it worked straight away. Dd2 is 16mo today and is just gorgeous. All the best with it, I hope you have a really smooth time of it next time around -although the first 12w are a bit nerve-wracking!

lurcherlover · 02/06/2013 19:24

I had one AF, then started ttc. We were only told to wait for one AF, not two. My cycle after the AF was really really long though (I got to day 45 with no AF and bfn) but I did conceive that cycle - I obviously ovulated really late. it made dating the pg a bit tricky as by dates I was a lot further along than I actually was, but obviously a scan cleared it up. Dd is 7 weeks old now. Best of luck with everything.

MoodyDidIt · 03/06/2013 09:23

aww lovely stories ktay and lurcherlover :) congrats on your lovely babies

i already have DS age 7 and DD age 4. but i want a dc 3 so badly. also the miscarriage was twins which was an even bigger blow as that would have been absolutely amazing. :(

Sorry to hear about your MMC. I had a TFMR in March and the consultant advised waiting until after 2 periods to TTC as he said there was a slightly increased risk of MC otherwise, something about the uterine lining. But you hear so many people having success after one period so we didn't particularly heed his advice (but alas weren't lucky that month).

Good luck!

vix206 · 04/06/2013 14:01

I fell pregnant straight after first AF and I'm now 6+3 so fingers crossed. I was just 6 weeks when I miscarried last time, symptoms are much stronger this time round.

MoodyDidIt · 04/06/2013 14:39

yeah i had barely any symptoms last time vix. kind of knew something was not right

congrats on your bfp Flowers and also fingers crossed for you. and hope you get lucky very soon too alibingo

I read up when I mc'd and concluded there was no reason to wait, other than to make dating easier.

However, for logistical reasons (work travel, etc), we weren't able to get it together for the next two ov times anyway. I have to say, I feel better for having waited. It was only about 2 months after the mc started that I felt physically and emotionally back to my old self. We tried naturally this month (third cycle post-mc) and we're getting back on the IVF train after this (my mc followed IVF treatment).

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 04/06/2013 21:00

I'm sorry to hear of your loss Sad. I had a mc at 7 weeks, but naturally, no intervention. I didn't even wait for AF afterwards, just counted the mc as AF - I knew I was ovulating 2 weeks later and I got a bfp 2 weeks after that. It did feel like the longest ever pregnancy as a consequence! Good luck this time around.
