We have a boy already and would like to have a girl next time. We have heard of a few methods that can enhance the chances of having a girl, but is there anyone out there who has had success or any experiance in this area?

PS hope I am not getting to personal...

I'll let you know on 25th December when DD(?) turns up.

Seriously i've read a book by Hazel Chesterman-Phillips called (wait for it) Choose the sex of your Child.

The basic method is to have lots of sex but stop five to two days before ovulation so that the weaker, but faster boy sperm expires and the stronger, but slower girl sperm survives.

Boy babies require abstaining for a week before ovulation then timing sex for the day you ovulate.
I know a work collegue who has used this and it worked. It was also how i know ds was a boy before i know i was pg first time.(if i'm pg, it's a boy)

Two words of caution, I mentioned trying for a girl to my newly pregnant friend when I started trying and she was quite understandably horrified. I had forgotton what it feels like to be pg.You want your baby to be well and happy and not "designer". Also I spent a year trying to get pregnant and didn't.The whole world knows i'm trying. I got pg so easily first time i innocently/cockedly (is that a word) declared I wouldn't be drinking at various functions due to my impending fertilisation!

I still would love to have a daughter, for some deep-rooted reason that I can't explain, but now that i have found out i'm pg at last , i just want this baby to be healthy and happy. And at this early stage i just want this pregnancy to go the distance.

Good luck with it all.

Hey Spinamum,
Don't feel bad...your point is understood. Becoming pg is a blessing. It is too easy to forget sometimes. Have fun opening your christmas gift this year...congradualations.

i've also heard the theory about male sperm being stronger and faster, but weaker and with less staying power. I tired it in pg 4 in the hope of getting a girl but had my third boy in a row. It goes without saying that now I've met him I wouldn't have it any other way etc.

I thought there was also something to do with the acidity of the vagina. Perhaps someone with more knowlege on this will come along and help.

There was an article recently about how strong women tend to have more boys than girls. I didn't get the time to let that one sink in but I'm sure there's a thread on archives if anyone could remember.

Sorry for the useless post. Good luck with your quest for a daughter. Smile
