I came off the pill in August and gave myself a couple of months to "settle" before TTC from mid October. I never had regular periods before going on the pill when i was about 18 or 19, so didn't know what to expect.

I had spotting in September, slightly heavier in October and almost a full period in November, all were around the same time of the month (19-21st) and lasted 3-4 days.

I haven't had anything at all in December so took a test on the 21st (negative), then again on the 24th (negative) - i tried a First Response one which was also negative and tried anohter FR one on the 27th (still negative).

I've booked to see the Doctor on the 31st to see what they think. I@ve read on lots of forums that sometmes only a blood test can pick it up. Has anyone else experienced this?

If i have a blood test on the 31st will i find out straight away or have to wait? I don't know whether to keep taking tests or not. I@ve got no other obvious signs - i'm tired, grouchy and have had the odd bout of nausea but that could all be to do with christmas or illness!

I'm really worried about NYE etc as i'm due to be going to a cocktail party and eating out with friends and don't want to take any unnecessary risks..equally, i don't want to convince myself i'm pregnant if i'm not!

Any suggestions/thoughts welcome, i'm totally new to this!

Just don't drink alcohol, no biggy, you are still allowed to have fun.

It is possible that you have had an annovulatory cycle (no ovulation), this s quite common. Also you may ave irregular periods - I came off the Pill in May 2010, had a withdrawal bleed as normal and then had a period 28 days later. After that, nothing! Nada! Not a sausage for 7 months. Turned out I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which stops me ovulating on a regular basis.

That aside, as far as a blood test goes you probably won't get instant results. Whenever I've had blood taken (and believe me I've had a shed load of tests over the last 2 years!) the results take 2 or 3 days to come back.

With regards to drinking, if you are pregnant having a few drinks at this early stage s unlikely to cause any problems. Until a placenta has formed the embryo draws no nutrition from you, so alcohol won't have an effect. If you are concerned, keep alternating your drinks with soft ones. After the first few, your friends will be too drunk to notice that you are not on real booze. You can also make sure you have virgin cocktails that look just like the real thing.

Fingers crossed for you.
