So dh and I are ttc our first baby after a mc 2 years ago, that pregnancy was an accident. So this time it's a conscious effort.

Last period 5/10 due 2/11 so AF never arrived, so poas- negative.
Currently have sore breasts, headaches, feel tired all the time, dizzy spells, and slight cramping and feel really bloated.
Have taken about 8 tests and all negative!

Am now 18 days late, don't know what to do, have been consulting dr google and some woman have said they never got a positive result until an ultra sound.

So how late do you have to be before you can get one? and surely if I did get a positive result with a hpt with previous pregnancy then I would get one again?

I hate being in limbo, any advice?

Go see your GP and explain as above - they may be able to advise/put your mind to rest.

Went at 14 days late was told to come back in 2 weeks, no offer of blood test. Just handed a sample bottle and was told to drop one off if I felt like it, but if hpt was negative then that would be as well, so no point really.

You can get a private blood test. They are not very expensive. Find a private GP or a fertility clinic near you and call up to see if they can sort one out for you.

I would go back and play up symptoms. I went when about 10 days late and was given a blood test - blood tests show up far lower concentrations of hcg than urine tests so are worth doing.

Incidentally, I wasn't pg, ended up being about 20 days late! Good luck though.

What kinds of tests are you using? I was testing for days after my period was due and getting negatives, all on internet cheapies. Then I tested with First Response in the evening and got a very obvious positive. Never trusting internet cheapies again!!

Have used numerous types from cheap to clear blu.

Have been thinking if I'm still the same on Friday which will be 3 weeks late, I might play up symptoms. The tired thing is getting on my nerves the most and the sore boobs. Very crampy tummy today so confusing my head even more.

I would say don't bother peeing on anymore sticks. My mum and my sister both had pregnancies where they did not get positive tests, and there are others here on mn who have had the same, even getting negative blood tests while pregnant. So spending money on tests is a waste of money.

Unfortunately it is just a matter of waiting. A kind doctor may feel to see if your uterus is extended after you have missed 2 periods, and if they feel that something is not right they will send you for an ultrasound scan. The uterus comes above the pelvic bone at around 12 weeks, so by then the doctor will definitely send you for an ultrasound by that stage.

You asked if having a positive test with your previous pregnancy would mean that you would get one now, the answer is not necessarily. My mum was 3 months pregnant and the doctor finally did a visual on her cercvix to confirm her pregnancy despite repeated negative tests, this was her third of seven pregnancies and the only one not to show up by tests. My sister was 4 months pregnant and had her preganacy confirmed by ultrasound scan, having had repeated negative tests, her pregnancy before and her pregnancy after both had normal pregnancy tests show up as normal.

Sorry you are in limbo, the fact is that most likely you are not pregnant but had an annovulatory cycle, but if you are pregnant it could be that you have to wait for another couple of weeks at least before you can get an ultrasound, so best I can advise is to try to distract yourself as best you can. Sorry can't be of more help.

Galway girl

That's loads of help, thanks a lot and thanks to everyone else. I am trying to not think about, but will wait and see over the next weeks and a half as I have a doctors appointment for something different then anyway.

You could ask for a blood test, but that would just show up hcg, which should appear on the urine tests too. I suppose they could also look at progesterone and estrogen levels? I think you'd have to find a sympathetic ear at the GP's. good luck.
