Periods not re-starting after 1st baby- anyone else experienced?

My periods didn't re-start after I finished breastfeeding (so about 9months after birth) - dr put me back on pill to "re-start" periods - thats now nearly two years ago I guess.

Recently stopped pill (should have started a new pack 6 weeks ago) but no period yet.

Maybe early days still but bit worried body not doing what it ought to! We haven't decided whether to try for another baby but thought we better see whether my cycles are anywhere near regular now. Has anyone else experienced similar?

I am still breastfeeding but no periods after 10 months. Before conceiving dd I was on the pill and didn't get a period until 2 months after I came off it. I read that this was common and the advice was to do a pregnancy test if no period after 3 months and see dr if not after 6 months (I think). Think it just takes a while for the hormones to settle down! But be careful if you don't want to get pregnant yet- you may not get a period as a "warning"!

Ah, thanks for that - will wait a bit longer - and be careful in the meantime!

I didn't have my period at all after baby number 1. When he was 7 months old my Gynae asked me to do a PG test - I was 3 months PG! ooops.

I was on the wretched depp injection for a year so no periods there and, 3 months later, they still haven't come back.

Dear Hearts -both after depo ( a long time ago) and pg /bf my periods took a long time to come back , over 6 months at least - I think it's quite common. Have you tried Agnus Castus? It's a homeopathic remedy and used to help TTC ( so I found out from MN ) as it regulates the female reproductive cycle. Try that for a couple of months at least... I'll be interested if you get a result as I am trialing it now, post if you do -Good Luck!

I'm only just having my first one - and DD will be one in two weeks' time. Had a bit of spotting previously but this is the first proper one. Since I went back to work when she was 6 months old I've continued BF morning and night but it's only recently that she's cut the length of those feeds right back - and my period started.

I agree with K1K2 and think there's a big range of 'normal' though.

What Pill are you on? I was on the minipill (I get migraines when on the combined pill) but it's never affected my periods previously although I know it can do, so I put the delay down to BF and general hormone readjustment after the baby. Anyway, I've come off the pill again this last weekend (period had already started) because the mood swings I was having were terrible (Shock) so will see if things settle down without it.

If you're worried, I would get a second opinion from another GP. In my experience, and that of quite a few friends, with fertility things most GPs are rubbish. Ask around for a recommendation of someone who knows about this stuff, or ask to be referred to a gynaecologist - especially if you're over 30 and worried. Always better to have your mind put at rest I think.
