Muma3, you need to read the next conception thread to yours! Wink

beetroot · 27/03/2006 20:09

read that book. dont you need to have sex on the day you ovulate and then stop? for a boy that is?

Eve2005 · 27/03/2006 20:10

good for you muma3, hope it all goes well Smile

fresco · 28/03/2006 14:25

which one is the next conception thread to muma3 please?

wannaBe1974 · 28/03/2006 14:40

apparently a study out recently suggested that people who take longer to conceive are more likely to conceive a boy - dunnow where that came from. As for getting pg quick - I think there are no hard and fast rules, some people can get pg quickly, some can't, and the time taken to conceive can differ with every child. Try not to stress too much about getting pg, and bear in mind that it probably won't happen the first month, so if it does then you won't be expecting it, there's nothing worse than thinking you'll get pg straight away and then finding out that that's not necessarily how it works.

cece · 28/03/2006 14:54

Don't know. I have one of each. With dd it took 7 months of ttc. We did it every day that month Grin
with ds it took 2 months of ttc and we did it ever couple of days when I was ov.

Not sure if that helps or not!
BTW the Chinese calendar gender thing works for both of mine.

bundle · 28/03/2006 14:57

I think if you have 3 girls and are planning to get pregnant again, the first thing you need to do is prepare yourself in case don't have a boy

muma3 · 28/03/2006 22:58

tbh id be pretty scared if i did have a boy as it would throw our family into chaos. i am curious really as to what it would be like and seeing as its our last i think it would be nice for the girls to have a brother to molly cuddle and for dp to have his lil boy to play footie with iyswim. i also think that it would be hard for the lil boy to have 3 older sisters , but it might be a good thing i dont know?

either way i would be really happy and content but i just would like to see how it would change our family having a boy in the house Grin

get an ovulation test kit and as soon as you release an egg, grab ya man!- worked for me. lovely ickle boy.
apparently the boys can swim quicker but the girls survive longer if that makes sense?!

i had to grab my man as he was rushing out the door for work, he was late and got a warning but worth it!!

chipmonkey · 28/03/2006 23:18

That thing about taking longer to conceive and getting boys is not true of us. I just looked at dh and we conceived ds1 and ds2. We did all the girl things the third time and got........ds3!
The chinese calender didn't work for any of our boys! According to it they should all be girls.
Having said that My Dad swore that the Shettles method worked for them, they got my brother after us 3 girls. I was not impressed! I had always thought we had a "girls house" and I liked it that way! My brother kind of grew on me though!

OK if I remember rightly...

Firstly time of month. The facts are that the boy sperms swim faster than the girls BUT fizzle out faster too. So... If you make love AFTER you've ovulate and the egg is out of the fallopian tubes then there is more chance of the male sperms getting there first.

Next... Position. Shallow for boys cos they are the faster swimmers (sorry if tmi) Grin

Food... for both of you. You need to change the acidity levels of both yours and your dp's fluids. Boys sperms prefer to swim in stuff that results from tonnes of meat - so no veggies for a while.

If you do all of this then you will change the odds from 50:50 to 60:40 so as Bundle says you really ought to get your head round a 4th girl.

I was desperate for girls and did all of the above things in reverse and have two gorgeous girls. This time round I didn't care and have been told that we're expecting our first boy (fingers crossed all goes well etc). I agree that my one concern is how the heck he'll fit into the pink tutu world that my girls have currently got the house decked out in but heck he'll be one of us and no doubt will stamp his own mark in his own way.

Good luck

great tips guys.
now being new to intense planning malarky. do i ovulate 12-14 days after my period stops?
should i be having sex 2 days either way? or just the day the egg is released?
im so interested but have never even taken it to account dates times etc Grin

wills - first boy? how many bairns do u want?hehe
we ttc 1st month now.must say that i would love a boy after 2 dds but no matter what we get really if i can get pg again

Wills · 29/03/2006 14:23

Fresco, would keep going and going except I don't do pregnancy very well and my dh would leave Grin

Umm in terms of ovulation you need to find out but could be anything from day 7 to day 14 so... if you're that set on planning then I would get a home ovulation kit for one or two months just to see when you do.

fresco · 29/03/2006 15:05

wills. do you mean that you would keep falling pg?

biglips · 29/03/2006 15:10

one of my friends got a ovulation kit and had sex on the day of the ovulation and had a boy

as boys sperm swim faster but die out quicker, girl sperms swim slower but live longer so if you want a boy, have sexo nthe day of ovulation, if you want a girl, you have sex either its 2 days BEFORE or AFTER ovulation

biglips · 29/03/2006 15:11

ill find out for you

fresco · 30/03/2006 07:16

do you mind if i ask you muma3, what made you and your husband decide to have a 3rd child?

HappyMumof2 · 30/03/2006 07:53

for a dd it's before ovulation, for a ds it's on the day or possibly the day after if you are lucky. My two worked out this way so I do believe this is true.

muma3 · 31/03/2006 14:57

fresco- dd3 is dp only child the other 2 girls are mine
