How do you know what the first day of your period is? Might sound like a dum question but I get two days of very light bleeding/spotting before it starts properly, so what day is the actual first day? We are TTC DC2 with no luck since Christmas and want to be sure I am working things out right!!

Its the first day of your bleed - although i dont know whether you'd count from the spotting or when it starts properly. I'd say the spotting.... Hope someone comes along i a bit who knows more than me. Good luck getting your dates sorted xxx

My understanding is the first day of 'full flow'. It's a bit of a judgment call I'm afraid. Good luck.

it depends who you talk too, some doctors I have talked to say count from the first spotting and some say from the first real bleed. I guess as long as you write it down when you spot and when you bleed and when you ovulate then you will see how your cycle pans out.

It is first day of proper bleeding. I was told by a nurse at the local fertility clinic that if the bleeding starts before lunchtime that is Day 1. If it starts after lunchtime the next day is Day 1.

Yup. I've been told both cd 1 = waking with bleeding, or bleeding pre 10am. Both fertility clinics.. I guess it doesn't really matter so much.

That makes my cycle 28, not 29 days last time. Good to know, thank you. :-)

Thanks all!
