What is going on with my body?! False positive 2 months in a row.

Starting from the beginning - came off Cerazette 20th October - I had only been on it 3 months. Prior to that I had the implant for 4 months. I hated both, didn't have a period in the entire 7 months.

November came and I had a period - we had unprotected sex during the month prior, but not actively ttc, using withdrawal method, avoiding possible ovulation time.
Mid December we decided to TTC actively, so had a period on 12th Dec, I tested on 5th Jan, which was CD24, and got a negative. On CD25 I got a faint positive, but definitely a positive, on CD26 my period arrived, and got a negative test.

So again this month, CD24 Negative, CD25 faint positive, and today, CD26, I got my period and a negative.

What is happening :( Really I shouldn't test so early, but I'm impatient, and want need to know.

I used to be a 28 day regular girl, and have never had any problems with conception. Yet when I want to get pregnant...!!

Hi there, I'm really no expert but I do know that false positives are v v rare. Assuming you're not taking any other meds which might have an impact then it's incredibly unlikely you are getting 'false' positives - you have some HCG in your urine. But the fact you are getting a neg and your period the following day would suggest you may have had two chemical pregnancies, basicially v early miscarriages. You've probably just been unlucky to get two in a row but if it happens again you should probably talk to your doc as it can suggest some issues. But from what I've read these can often be treated quite easily, for some just a baby asprin every day. Best of luck x

I'm not using any medication at all. What kind of issues could it suggest? I've had 4 pregnancies in the past and never had this kind of issue - its all new to me!

I keep questioning myself, wondering if it was really there - but it definitely was. Dp saw it too.

Hiya, I'm sorry I dont know a lot - I think either immune issues , so the body sees an embryo as foreign and rejects it, or something to do with blood clotting. But if you've had succesful pregnancies then hopefully you've just been unlucky to have two in a row.

Youve just been unlucky TheDetective. Unfortunately because we have such super sensitive tests now we can pick up very early mcs when previously we would have had no idea! Early mc (particularly pre period) are EXTREMELY common. It's probably not a sign of any issue or anything. Tis nature's way I'm afraid :)

What tests are you using? Either the tests are giving you "false positives" or you're having chemical pregnancy where the egg is fertilised but fails to implant. When you've had the positive tests, has your af come on time?
I strongly recommend not testing until your af is due/late. Early testing is a dicey game and can cause more heartbreak than needed.

Also, how old are you if you don't mind me asking?

I am 27. I have been using Predictor tests, both months. And AF has been early on CD 26 both times (normally 28 days).

Deep down I think I am really worrying because for years I used condoms only with no fertility problems at all. I've always really disliked hormonal contraception. I feel it has too many side effects, and messes up your fertility! I wasn't having enough sex in the past to need to worry about long term contraception, but the last 2 years have been in a relationship with lots of sex, so reluctantly decided to have the copper coil - but the bleeding and cramping was hideous, for 2 weeks out of every 4 for over a year. So I had the implant, and then followed by Cerazette.

Now, I feel like it is this which is causing a problem. Either I have been 'pregnant' and they were chemical pregnancies, or I'm not getting pregnant, when usually, I would. Either way, I'm worried.

I think it does take a while to settle down after hormonal contraception. I wondered about your age in terms of time to conceive, over 35 I'd have suggested seeking medical attention after 6 months. Stats wise, you've got an 80% chance of conceiving within a year.
Those are sensitive tests that correct me if I'm wrong anyone? don't have a terrible reputation for giving false positives..if you're worried, might be worth going to your GP for some advice?

when usually, I would." You really need to relax and A stop testing so early, and B stop assuming there's something wrong because you're not pregnant after two months.

You need to stop thinking about these as pregnancies, because they're not. I read somewhere that only one in ten embrios implants in the uterus and that the rest simply pass through without implanting. These are not pregnancies, and tbh I think all this talk of chemical pregnancies and early miscarriages just adds to the stress of ttc. You can't think of an embrio that hasn't taken as a miscarriage - it isn't. Thinking like that isn't helpful to anyone.

On average it takes a normally healthy couple up to a year to conceive. Just because you've conceived quickly in the past doesn't mean this will always be the case.

Put the pregnancy tests away and don't buy them until you're at least three days late.

And bear in mind that stress can affect ovulation, so the more you stress about this, the worse it will be, because ovulation will be delayed which in turn will delay your period and then you'll just stress more and so the cycle continues.

And if you're still testing and getting positive tests you need to see your gp. A false positive pregnancy test can actually be indicative of serious issues, so if this continues then do go and seek medical help.

Wannabe, I'd argue with the fact that these aren't real pregnancies, I'm not sure if you have experienced a chemical pregnancy and have developed your own thoughts on how to cope with them or whether you haven't had them and just don't realise how horrible they can be. As someone who has had a few of these myself, I didn't feel as if it was just an embryo which hadn't taken, in the same way that when I miscarried further along I didn't feel that was an embryo which didn't develop properly, whether 4 weeks or 8 weeks, I was expecting a baby, and when I was no longer pregnant, I grieved for the loss of what might have been. I'm sure you aren't being hurtful on purpose, but please consider there are many people on these boards who are somewhat fragile and please take care how you phrase things.
On a very practical note, the op should consider these as pregnancies if only because it proves that there is no problem with egg meeting sperm, which rules out a lot of future tests. If she has several more of these very early losses, she should approach her gp for referral. You may be surprised to learn that my gp agreed to refer me after 6 consecutive cps and it transpired I have subclinical thyroid issues which needed treating.
