DH and I have been TTC DC2 for a year now and, after two mcs last year, we're keen to maximise our chances of a healthy conception this time. I take antenatal vitamins as well as vit B complex whenever my LP is a bit short. DH takes zinc although we don't know if he has any problems with his swimmers or not.

I'm curious to know what supplements others take and why? Let's rattle our way to healthy 2012 babies!

wow ! love the thread - I am a bit of a supplement anorak so loving reading what you are all taking. I had a MC at 20 weeks in Dec and am awaiting post-mortem results so in the meantime I have decided to reduce my chances of another MC by getting body prepared with vitamins. I am taking:

Pregnacare (DP is on the Wellman equivalent)
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
Vitamin C with Zinc (DP on this too)
Vitamin B Complex
Evening Primrose Oil (until ov as helps with EWCM)
Loads of folic acid (sonographer suggested there may be fluid on baby's brain which can be linked to a spina bifida related problem)

I have a very healthy diet but feel that there is no harm in taking vitamins too.

GreenOlives what is VitD3 - I have never heard of that, very interesting...what dosage of magnesium and D3 do you take ?

Those of you who have had MC - if you don't mind me asking, how long ws it before your cycles returned ? I have been waiting just over 5 weeks - am temping so I know that I have not ov'd yet.

Off to put some cinammon and brazil nuts in my porridge Wink

Hi gomurray, so sorry to hear of your loss. My cycle has returned very quickly after my miscarriages but they have been early losses so I would imagine it takes longer after a late loss like yours, have you done a test to make sure the HCG is all out of your system?. In answer to your question I think I went for Vit D3 on a recommendation from another lady on here whose consultant suggested it for her following recurrent miscarriages. I take 25mcg of it which is apparently 500% of the RDA! I take 250mg Magnesium. I get all my vitamins from Holland & Barrett.
Good luck with TTC, I really hope you get a nice sticky BFP very soon. Smile

which vits are in the pregnacare and zia west? can anyone post a list please?

gomurray · 19/01/2012 18:10

GreenOlives thanks for the info. I haven't tested that all HCG out of my system but as I had to deliver the baby I know that everything was delivered - baby, sac and placenta, so I assume all ok - will check with Consultant, have appt in just over a week.
I have had cinnamon the last 2 days and am off to Holland and Barrett to stock up on D3 and Magnesium thanks to this thread. Also been scoffing brazils and bought manuka honey - it can't hurt ! Smile

I've just been looking through this thread at the supplements listed. You should see my 'medicine' cupboard its jam packed with supplements! It is verging on ridiculous. A good one for people TTC that I found (I have PCOS and insulin resistance was n-acetyl cysteine or NAC. There's an article about the research here but one thing that happened in the studies was that it massively increased the success of Clomid.

Here's a picture of just some of my supplements!
