Very daft questions alert! Can I somehow shorten my 31 day cycle???

Prepare for a very stupid question Blush

My cycle seems to be 31 days, and I would really rather it was the 'average' 28 days. I know it doesn't seem like much but those extra few days each month are agonising! Also it equates to 11,7 cycles per year rather than 13...

So, is there anything I can do to shorten it? Or is it just completely up to Mother Nature?

I can't think of anything... Confused

HiSmile

My cycle is 31-33days and it all equates to at what point in your cycle you ovulate and how long your luteal phase is (length of Tom between Ov and AF) if you want to shorten your cycle, you will need to prompt your body to Ov earlier in the monthSmile

Have you monitored your cycle? Taking your BBT(basal body temp) every morning and charting it is a good way of doing this and then maybe when you know when you Ov the cycles won't seem so longSmile

How long have you been TTC? Smile

I doubt there is actually much you can do if anything at all. If you are 31 days regularly then that is just how your body works. It's well within the normal range so should have no effect on your ability to conceive. I'm not sure how exactly you can tell your body to ovulate earlier?

Hi Smile

Thanks for the replies. Been TTC since September, so not long, but I'm just impatient!! I know I am lucky to have fallen back into a regular pattern after being on the pill.

I have been trying to monitor when I ovulate as I read about the luteal phase being different lengths on here, but haven't done the BBT charting. Might look into that.

TBH, if you have a monthly cycle of normal length (as you do) then the last thing I would do is try to mess with it. Many of the ttcers on here with pcos and other issues that disrupt their cycles would give anything for a regular 31 day cycle!

I wouldn't bother with the charting malarkey if you are only 3 months into ttc. It adds stress to the mix too early and really in the first 6 months it's best to just enjoy as much contraception-free shagging as you can.
With a 31 day cycle I'd recommend sex as much as possible between days 12 and 21 of your cycle. If you can get 4 or 5 times in within that window you will have the best possible chance.

Unless you have a problem ttc (ie more than 6 months and no luck yet) I do think that the best idea is to have sex 3 times a week every week and not be bothering with charts, calendars, thermometers and all that malarkey. If you don't get a win within the next few cycles, perhaps try ovulation testing.
