How long did it take for you?

Me and hubby have been "trying" for a baby for a year now and unfortunately still no luck. Admittedly we were not particularly focused (!) at the beginning but now we are fully temping and opking and still bfn.
my logical side knows that this doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong. I've just turned thirty so that will reduce our chances per cycle too.

I guess I just wanted a quick straw poll of mumsnetters to see what the average is for people. So...... How long did it take for you?

1st pregnancy aged 36 (when I conceived) - 18 months
2nd pregnancy aged 39 - 2 months (I'd sussed it out by then)

in between I had two miscarriages, and each of those I conceived in 1 or two months.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 13/06/2011 21:10

DD1 - 1 month, aged 22
DD2 - Wasn't TTC, 1st time after having DD1, 11 months between them, aged 23, obviously
DS- no idea I was pregnant til 5 months gone and he arrived at 6 months, aged 25
DD3 - 2 weeks after having the Mirena coil removed pregnant aged 38

BlooferLady · 13/06/2011 21:15

TTCing about 18 months for #1 - no luck so far. All tests clear and bonny for us both. I'm 31, DH 37. It is, to quote the docs, purely a matter of statistics Grin.

All these are giving me hope. My view is very firmly that physiological issues aside, it's all totally random. I second the advice to go the GP after a year for an MOT if you're over 30...

Rainydaze · 13/06/2011 21:17

Came off the pill after 12 years. Was pregnant the following week!

Rainydaze · 13/06/2011 21:17

Sorry, I was aged 28.

drivingmisscrazy · 13/06/2011 21:25

just to add a curved ball in - my DP (we're a gay couple) took 7 tries (home insemination, so timing critical etc, took us a while to work out what we were doing; also some months we missed for various practical reasons) and a mmc for DD1 (now 2.5) at 38; our DD2 took 3 goes, at 41. Glad to say that we can throw all our fertility paraphernalia away now - baby due in November!

FWIW I tried for 9 months, nada, nothing, but I was rather old.

piprabbit · 13/06/2011 21:27

DD1 - 2yrs 8mths (started when I was 30).
DS1 - 2yrs 9mths (started when I was 34).

Several MCs on the way to conceiving both DCs, we were just starting infertility investigations when I became naturally pregnant with DD1. Then we had an ectopic pg followed by a diagnosis of endometriosis and 1 course of IVF which led to DS1.

Haudyerwheesht · 13/06/2011 21:31

Ds - 6 cycles - age 24

Asinine · 13/06/2011 21:32

My friend asked dh how long it took us to conceive.

He answered "about 15 minutes"

I'll never live it down Grin

Asinine · 13/06/2011 21:33

Ps Good luck to all TTC

drivingmisscrazy · 13/06/2011 21:41

yes, fingers crossed for all of you; it's tough when it doesn't happen like you expect

NinjaChipmunk · 13/06/2011 21:42

its interesting to see what a wide range of time frames it takes. Not just from person to person but from dc to dc.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/06/2011 21:45

Got pregnant in the first month of trying for each

All these quick times with women over 30 really are giving me hope.

PelvicFloors0fSteel · 13/06/2011 22:30

DS1 - 9 months age 28
DS2 - immediately age 30

I found stopping the pill totally messed my cycles up and I'm sure the difference 2nd time round was not having gone back on it in between.

goldmaple · 13/06/2011 22:39

DC1 (due in Nov)- took 7 months, age 27 (had been off pill for 1 year and periods had just gone back to normal for 2 cycles)

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 13/06/2011 22:42

DD1 3 months age 35
DD2 1 month age 38

thisisstupid · 15/06/2011 12:56

Pregnancy 1 accident i had an abortion, my firstborn was an accident i was on the injection crazy. Pregnancy 3 i was an accident i didn't use a condom one night which was a stupid thing to do and ended in a second abortion. Pregnancy number 4 first time we had unprotected sex i got pregnant and am 36 weeks now and counting, none of my pregnancies were really planned they just happened best way really you avoid the stress of actually trying

thisisstupid · 15/06/2011 12:58

Don't get worried my mum had fertility treatment with me when she was 30 and her fourth child my youngest brother when she was 40, she was on the injection as well so a complete suprise, statistics are generalistaions and mean absolutly nothing to the individual.

hairylights · 15/06/2011 13:02

age forty three (and recurrent mc)

First attempt - 6 months after coming off the pill, only really focussing for two-three months due to lack of knowledge, working out fertile times etc
Second attempt - first month of trying
Third attempt - first month of trying
Fourth attempt (currently Pg) - first month of trying
