Hi. I'm new to Mumsnet and wondered if anyone could help. I've been using an Ovatel saliva kit for the past couple of weeks. I should have ovulated by now but have had no indication from the kit. Of course I may not be ovulating. If anyone has used this type of ovulation kit before can you tell me if it was reliable, please.

Hi 3catstoo! Welcome to MN you'll love it!!

There is someone on the TTC after miscarriage thread that uses one of these or one similar. I will find out who it is and get them over here

I used one called an ovuliser. i did get +ves but sometimes only after I did it 3 or 4 times during the course of a morning. I also got +ve results for 7 days which surely can't be right. Have given up and am using ov kits now. But have not managed to conceive in 5 months so I am proably not the best person to talk to!

Hi,
i have an ov saliva microscope, i think they are great. you must not eat or drink for 2 hours before you get the saliva, so first morning is best. you must let the saliva dry thoroughly before looking at it. it should make a fern patten when you have an estrogen surge which happens just before ov. these ferns can start showing up to 5 days before ov and grow in amount the closer to ov you are. as soon as i saw the ferns i baby danced every day till they were waning and bingo first month it worked! i used it as contraception for few months too and it worked great.
some people don't ov every month, so don't worry and also you might ov late or early and have missed it. keep tracking it everyday for at least 2 months and if no ferns go to doctors to check you are ov.

Thanks. It's good to know that someone has used one and it worked. I'll percivere.
I'm not actively trying yet as I have a reluctant hubby. Just doing a bit of planning in advance though just on the off chance. I already have 3(6,4 ans 18 mths). Feeling my most brudy yet. I feel like a women obsessed. Any tips on convincing other halves to have number 4?
