Hi,

I am new to mumsnet but just had my 3rd mc at 5 weeks. The previous mc was a chemical pregnancy so not sure if that counts but another mc about 2.5 years ago again at around 5-6 weeks. Feel terrible today as had previously thought of myself as very able to conceive and this time around its come as a bit of a blow. I had felt sooo pregnant too that it was all a bit of a shock. I have two older children both conceived first time around. However, I have now reached the big 40 and wonder if this has something to do with it? Can anyone offer me some advice on whether to go to a fertility clinic now given my age and history or to try again myself naturally. The clinic is expensive but I feel as if time is running out... What can I expect from the clinic?

Hi kidks, sorry for your loss, I would say if your dr is not helping you go to a clinic. At a clinic you will have full blood tests straight away and they will test your AMH levels to see your egg reserve and this will help plan what course of treatment is best for you. I bypassed my dr and went straight to a clinic (as going to my regular dr would have wasted my time) I can only advise you on my experience but i found my clinic amazing there is no other word for all the people who are there they are soo supportive and caring through the good and bad. People always say infertility is stressful but i can honestly say with the clinic i am with they take all the stress out of it and i trust my dr 100%. When looking for a clinic you should feel comfortable, be able to have good communication (them ringing you with results - if i have blood tests done at 10am they call me with the results at 1pm that same day and then fax me the results so i can see what is happening compared to the normal ranges etc) Go for it or you will always wonder what if...

Best of luck x

Thank you babypops that helps. I think you are right and not sure I can through another mc without at least knowing I had planned ahead and did everything I could for all to be successful. My own GP is just dreadful. Couldn't even tell me whether or not I need anti-d injection as rhesus negative. I was told she would have to ask the hospital and just hasn't got back to me. I think I will contact someone who really does know what they are talking about!

I will look around for clinics but if any can provide recommendations then please let me know.

x

It depends where you are in the country I have heard brilliant things about CARE Nottingham but you would have to research clinic near you, my clinic is in Munich as we are living over here. Read lots of reviews you will find some reviews good some bad everyone has different experiences and you cant always please everyone, go with your gut feeling and you must feel happy and comfortable with whoever you choose to go with.
