Hi everyone, just thought I would ask for some views. We have been trying to conceive for over a year. We have had all the tests done - sperm tests, blood tests etc. My tubes are clear and the results of the AMH test were very good. The diagnosis is unexplained infertility - never quite sure how to feel about it (at least there isnt an obvious problem but...) and I am now getting quite impatient. I started acupuncture and herbs 2 months ago too.

the private clinic I have been to is a good one and I would just like to go in and decide to pay some money and do whatever can work...anything at this stage. but the doctor says that I am still young (32 going 33) and that I am healthy so I should try some drugs first before trying anything more radical...But why having drugs if there is nothing to fix?!? And what if the drugs just dont work and I end up wasting another 6 months?

Have you come across this before? And what did you do?

Hi, really sorry to hear about the problems youve been having, it's really really tough isn't it. I had exactly the same as you, we had all the tests done, all came back clear, was put on clomid for 3 months and no luck there either. Anyway I changed consultants and my new consultant wanted to do a laparoscopy to see what was going on and discovered endometriosis which he treated and I was pregnant the first month we tried after the operation. Have you had a lap or a hysteroscopy done? I really don't think that until these have been done that a couple should be labelled with unexplained infertility.

Unless you have ovulation problems then I really don't see how clomid is going to help, it almost seems that for most consultants they have a list of basic tests to do then a check list of procedures to go through, clomid, IUI then IVF and I really believe that more should be done to get to the route of the problem as often it can be fixed without the need for drugs or IVF.

Wishing you the best of luck

X

thanks helenlouisey, thats very helpful. will make sure to insist on not getting landed with clomid & ask for a lap instead. Congrats on your pregnancy!
