Is it better to take folic acid or the pregnancy supplements?

Last time i just took folic acid, but people on here keep mentioning preg supplements. Any ideas please as which is best?

I suppose it depends on how healthy you consider yourself to be.

Do you eat lots of fruit and veg? If you do it's probably ok just to take folic acid.

Agree with sweetheart, also, the preg supplements cost a fortune in comparison to the Folic Acid alone. First time around I took Pregnacare most of the time, this time (TTC) I'm just on Folic Acid as we have a fairly healthy diet.

I have always taken a vitamin supplement because I don't think I eat enough fruit and veg. So when I was preparing for pregnancy I added just folic acid to my existing supplement.

However, my existing supplement contains Vitamin A, which you're not supposed to take too much of during pregnancy, so one we started TTC I switched to a pregnancy vitamin supplement (that contains folic acid as well).

As sweetheart and Flutterbye have said, it all depends on your current diet.

I've been making fruit smoothies to have in the morning (just simple fruit wizzed up with fruit juice)to up my vitamin intake so hopefully I'll only have to take folic acid (I'm really very bad at taking tablets!)The first few months I was on the pill I had to take them with water! I know, I'm pathetic! Did anyone else's mum crush tablets up between spoons and dish them out with jam? No? Just me?

Have decided to take the pregnancy supplement ones as our diet isn't bad but could be better, so to give the little one and me the best chance thought I would take the lot.

Boots are doing 3 for 2 on them at the moment, so they don't work out too bad.
