Help - A 9wk old baby and desperately want to get pg again... is this normal??!

I've recently given birth to a gorgeous little bubby, but am totally desperate to be pg again.

It took over a year to conceive #1. i'm over the world to be a mummy and can't believe my luck. Not sure if urgency is due to this or baby hormones...

Not even sure how we can get pg as I'm BF and it seems BF is 99% effective contraceptive. Seems like unless i stop, its going to be impossible. ;-( but won't stop feeding yet, as its important to me to look after bubby.

DH is v understanding but DTD is not easy, had forceps delivery and episotiomy, so still uncomfortable and finding it diff to become a temptress to tempt hubby to jump me as DTD is painful and he works long hrs and not sleeping cos of bubby!

Anyone in a similar situ / advice would be much appreciated... Am i going mad??!

hotsprocket, when I had 6wk check up, Doc said my stiches had been done very well, but there was scar tissue - not sure what she meant, should have probed her more.

Out of interest how long was it before you saw your GP for gynae referral? Concious I'm going to relax TTC#2, but want to be armed with the facts because time is an issue due to my age

And yep nospringflower DTD = doing the deed, sorry if this isn't MN lingo, I'm new to this!!

I saw the doctors when dd was 12 wks. My problem is a bit different because basically the midwife did too many stitches, so has left me with a very small opening I know it's not going to get better by itself so I just went to docs as soon as I realised there was a problem. I'm still waiting for my hospital appointment, but i think it should be in the next few months.

Lol - thanks for the explanation. Not sure if its usual MN lingo or not - just new to me!

Hotsprocket - you poor thing, hope appointment goes well, flippin episotiomies, I'm wishing they'd given me the emergency caesarean I nearly had, Would have none of this bother! ;-)

I dunno. C-sections aren't all a barrel of laughs! Took me about a week before I was well enough to walk the five minutes to the hospital shop with DP. Couldn't wear jeans because they rubbed against the scar. Got an infection which made it really smell like rotting flesh and made me really self-conscious and uncomfortable and now still have to apply cream to it 4 months later. Also, dunno if it's related, but I still looked heavily pregnant 6 weeks after giving birth. But yeah, I was comfortably having sex a couple of weeks after she was born and am secretly pleased that "down there" hasn't been affected by having a baby.

But I thought I was crazy, it's good to know it's normal! DD is 4 months old now and it was literally about two weeks ago that I stopped feeling desperately broody (and that's only cause I was worried about my period not arriving and it suddenly dawned on me how terrifying it would be to have another baby so soon). And I totally did the "wanting to become a midwife" thing too. Even rang a few universities to enquire about places. And ranted to my HV when she said it's recommended I wait at least a year for the c-sec scar to fully heal before getting pg again.

I have heard tales of there being a "broodiness" hormone that kicks in about 7 wks after birth; don't know if it's true... We decided to TTC about 4 months after DD1 was born (she was also forceps & epi) and lo and behold there are 13.5 months between DD1 and DD2 and I'm loving it (and I delivered DD2 on G&A only and not a forcep in sight ). This time round I felt broody about 24 hours after DD2 was born though after a few days like today with both of them screaming acts as quite an effective contraceptive

Is it always the hormones though? Its just I hated being pregnant with ds (dc2) but was unreasonably broody following his birth. I mean desperate for another. He is 7 months now and it hasnt left me at all. We've decided to ttc. . Sorry to hijack but 7 months later its hardly hormones still?

mouseymouse, that's EXACTLY the stage I'm at! 12 week old, been sleeping really well for a week, and, having declared "never again" loudly to anyone who'd listen, I'm now wistfully thinking about a little sibling! Bonkers!

Then again, like the OP, time's a-ticking on.
