Ai and water supply

So, AI is expanding together with the need for large data centres. These facilities tend to use vast amounts of water. Currently a lot of us are on water restrictions. How will new data centres will affect local supplies? Especially in already water-stressed areas ie the south east. All this has been going totally over my head until this week. Is this madness, bearing in mind we're fully aware of the changing climate? Is water going to be diverted away from the population to fuel Ai?

Yes, our corporate overlords want ai to come first, clearly.
It worries me too but nobody seems to care.
There's a village near me who is fighting an ai data centre being built on countryside. They wreck the environment, devalue houses, and emit low frequency noise. For what? Billionaires miming data and crypto and so people can outsource their brains to chat gpt.
