Interesting to see this has come back, any reason why it went off for a while BigTech?

I haven't done a swap but I know it is a great idea.

Philosopher · 19/09/2008 14:24

Hi Zanz1bar,
we live in Crowborough in between Brighton and London with train station, 3 bed house may well be interested in a weekend in Suffolk. 2 a + 1 20 month old boy.

Doire44 · 19/09/2008 20:42

I'm so glad this topic is now on mumsnet! We live in a detached house in a nice part of Birmingham. We're always looking for new places to go in the UK during the school holidays. There's five of us so "normal" holidays can be expensive and tricky to sort.

We've also got friends up north that we don't see often enough...

Anteater · 20/09/2008 05:08

should have said we are looking for a house in central London..!

Portofino · 20/09/2008 06:46

We're just on the outskirts of Brussels - 4 beds, very good transport links to the city centre / Antwerp / Leuven.

We might be interested in a swap to the UK next Easter - London, Cotswolds, Shropshire, Powys (sister lives there) or somewhere scenic?

Hi Portofino
I live close to Chester and might be interested, have to run it past DH. Have 2a 2c,

Lesgets · 22/09/2008 13:13

Hi there portofino. Have just seen your posting and v. interested.

We live in Hitchin (an old market town) in Hertfordshire. It's 30 mins on train to London and v. near St Albans which has a gorgeous cathedral. Cambridge is about 45 mins drive and Oxford is about 90 mins drive.

Wherabouts are you?

We are 2a and 1 2 year old.

pollydan · 22/09/2008 22:40

I have a lovely detached 4 bed house in Ireland. Right on the beach. Would anyone like to do a longterm swap? Would consider Europe, Canada, America or Australia.

Tolalola · 01/10/2008 16:24

Never house-swapped before - wondering how this works...

We (me, DP and DS 9 months) live in the British Virgin Islands in a 2 bedroom cottage - would someone from the UK literally just swap houses with us for a couple of weeks or whatever? Sounds brilliant!!

I have 3 dogs. Do people ever dog-swap too?

PadDad · 24/04/2009 07:40

Am I right that most of these Mumsnet house swaps never really materialise? That it's more like window shopping?

Most of the threads seem to fizzle out.

Or do you all contact each other via CAT (which I haven't yet investigated and therefore don't understand) and proceed with arrangements from there?

Dysgu · 24/04/2009 07:52

We were only talking about this sort of thing over the weekend when we were away.

House swap would be a much easier option than hotel with two infants.

We have a 4 bedroomed house in Cowes on the Isle of Wight if anyone is interested in sorting something for the future?

mumoverseas · 25/04/2009 07:17

PadDad you are wrong, some do materialise.
I've just returned from Malaysia having house swopped with a mumsnetter in Kuala lumpa. Had a fabulous time and it saved us a fortune as hotel accommodation for myself, DH and 4 kids would have cost a fortune. She and her DH have 3 kids so would have been expensive too for her to have stayed in a hotel in Sussex instead of my 5 bed house.

We communicated through this site initially and then exchanged email addresses and went from there.
Think you are right that most threads fizzle out but I imagine most people aren't really serious about it. It can work out though.

So where do you want to go?

ssd · 25/04/2009 07:30

we have a tiny house outside Glasgow, no one would swap with me

PadDad · 25/04/2009 08:03

Fair enough.

We have a flat in Central London, near Hyde Park.

And would be very interested in swapping for Edinburgh, just for a few days, or longer if during the Edinburgh Festival.

But that should be a thread of its own, right?

mumoverseas · 25/04/2009 09:45

start your own thread PadDad, worth a go, someone might be interested

Chrysanthamum · 25/04/2009 20:08

I've posted a few times here hoping for a swap and have had some interest which for various reasons did not materialise.
We did get a great house swap with a family in Normandy over Easter through switchome(got the tip on here) so we're keen to do more in the UK. I've just signed up with a site for UK swappers as well. I'll continue to post on here once in a while, since we get good hols and love getting away, even at short notice.

ssd you'd be surprised at the amount of people that want to come to Scotland.

mamas12 · 25/04/2009 20:52

What a great idea I live in a v. scenic part of Wales )lots of castles) close to M4 too. 3 bed detatched with a dog 1A 2C.
I'll look after your dogs if you look after mine Tolalola!
The only thing is I don't know when I could do it. Also what kind of insurance and things do you have to set up if anything?

ssd · 25/04/2009 21:07

Chrysanthamum, it not Scotland - I mean my house is so tiny it wouldn;t suit most!
