Could persistent digestive pain in your mid-twenties be genetic?

A friend of mine has been suffering from chronic pain from the past few months and this has been concerning me lately.
She loves to have spicy food and fast food and now she she is facing some gut and digestion issues. Her grandmother had some digestion issue too and the symptoms she faced are now being faced by her as well. She is in her mid 20's but the pain now is becoming persistent. Is it possible that the pain is genetic and she might be having a digestion problem which exists in her genes?

Coeliac? Massively underdiagnosed and the genes run in families but only get switched on in some

Some digestive conditions can run in families, but similar symptoms don’t necessarily mean it’s genetic. Since the pain has become persistent, it would be worth her seeing a GP rather than assuming it’s just from food or family history.
