Is it sad that one of the things I'm looking forward to the most tomorrow (apart from watching the little cherubs open their presents) is Doctor Who??!!!

Am ridiculously excited and will probably cry all the way through 'cos David will be gone soon....!

We enjoyed it but could not avoid a bit of a due to:

The Master's dead and refused to regenerate so he's GONE FOR GOOD! Absolutely. End of. No way back. Err then someone finds some magic potion.

The Doctor had to wipe Donna's memory or she'd DIE. She will NEVER ever remember anything she has experienced and how sad we all were . . . whoops and it all comes back to her because "something bizarre" happens.

The Time Lords are all gone FOR EVER. The Dcotor is so sad about this (why escapes me precisely as all they ever seemed to do is stand about portentously looking grand). The Doctor is THE ONLY TIME LORD LEFT. He is thus soooooo lonely. Oooh, look! Hi Guys! Where you been?

The Daleks and the Cybermen have been defeated FOR ALL TIME. They can never return to menace the earth again. Guess who is expected back on New Year's Eve.

I have no problem with old foes/friends returning but wish it wasn't after months of labouring over how totally impossible it would all be.

Kaloki · 26/12/2009 11:08

BalloonSlayer There was a lot of that conversation in our house too. As far as we can tell the writers watched Lord Of The Rings, X-men and an Aphex Twin video then thought they'd make a really good mix.

nymphadora · 26/12/2009 11:28

I wondereed if the whole point was to unsettle us by the Dr being wrong

(hopingthere is a reasdon for all this)

hth!!!

MollieO · 26/12/2009 12:37

I didn't think it was very good. I thought the water one was excellent, good story and suitably scary. Last night's seemed more like a pantomime and hasn't made me that interested in seeing the second part. Even ds was not interested in watching all of it and usually he doesn't move when Dr Who is on.

I will miss DT and RTD though as I think, mostly, the writing has been excellent.

elliemellie · 26/12/2009 13:25

Thought all you DT fans might like to know that he's also reading the Cbeebies bedtime story, think it's already been on last week but also Monday/tuesday this coming week too methinks!

nymphadora · 26/12/2009 13:41

& Dt and CT on radio 2 for Jonathon Ross today at some point

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 26/12/2009 16:59

Had to giggle at that Molly as last night for me was the first special (Christmas or otherwise)i've enjoyed since DT'sfuirst Christmas one- liked the series though, not sure why.

But adored last night.

legspinner · 26/12/2009 19:48

fantastic celticlass - thank you - I have bookmarked it for DH and I later today!
Although have not seen it yet, I gather that the Master came back, wasn't that on the cards given the end of series 3 with Martha? DH and I thought that he and his wife had some pact going on whereby if he died, she would somehow work to "bring him back to life"..hence her (?) picking up the ring at the end of the Martha series?...
As for the daleks and cybermen, they just need to hide somewhere in a time void before coming back
Or perhaps not...will have to see whether this all makes sense....

DottyDot · 26/12/2009 22:02

blimey - I thought it was fab. We saw the ring drop at the end of when the Master died originally, so that's been brewing for ages. I thought DT was wonderful - as usual! Now can't wait for New Year's Day - much more exciting than New Year's Eve, frankly...

RustyBear · 26/12/2009 22:24

RTD said on Confidential that he'd written the end of series 3 with a way for the Master to return but that he didn't know if it would be him who would write it, or some future show-runner.

NormaSknockers · 27/12/2009 08:56

I may give up watching it when DT leaves - not sure it will be the same plus I'll miss drooling over his rather pert bottom

newgirl · 27/12/2009 17:09

i was a little disappointed - great cast but very slow in the middle. i wish there had been more on the dad/daughter and the machine - it all seemed a bit rushed with too much time spent in the rubbish tip. will still watch on new year though!

BalloonSlayer · 27/12/2009 17:14

I thought there was too much time spent on David Tennant running hither and thither. And too much time spent on the Master laughing and laughing and laughing and

edam · 27/12/2009 21:07

Oh Gawd what a load of bollocks that was. Worth watching for DT (and Bernard Cribbins who is ace) but someone needs to shoot Russell T. At least they are getting rid of him, I suppose (although it won't be the same without DT anyway).

SlartyBartFast · 27/12/2009 21:25

i never like these specials, i always feel a bit let down.

coudlnt work out how he knew bernard cribbens? is it trhough donna.

edam · 27/12/2009 21:53

Yup, Bernard is Donna's Grandad and was also in that Christmas episode with Kylie.

fartmeistergeneral · 28/12/2009 16:08

I'm not sure I can cope with the next episode. I WILL cry! I cried when Rose left

EdgarAleNPie · 28/12/2009 18:38

it seemed to lack substance.

too much in the way of cut scenes, too little in the way of plot and character development.

can't wait for the next one though!

and also thought John Simm looked eminently doable as The Master, though he isn't my normal bit of crumpet.

edam · 28/12/2009 20:15

yes, but if they are using John Sim again WHY NOT Philip Glenister? Huh?

Although I guess JS, DT and PG all together might give me palpitations or something...

brightspark2 · 28/12/2009 20:27

He's on Alan Carr's Chatty Man with Catherine Tate on CH4 at 1145pm on New Year's Eve as well! Yummy.

sphil · 29/12/2009 00:20

Didn't enjoy the Master bits - agree too much laughing and FAR too much manic actorish stuff about being hungry. V sad bit in cafe with DT and BC - but bit at how adult RTD has made the specials this year - surely the whole point of regeneration is that the Doctor DOESN'T die? And don't like the trailer with blood all over his face either - Dr Who has never been bloody.

Loved DT on Desert Island Discs though...
had to restrain myself from shouting out 'Take me!' when he had to name his luxury item...

fartmeistergeneral · 29/12/2009 11:30

I have to confess liking the Master in black jeans, red tshirt and black hoody - and mad blond hair...

sphil · 29/12/2009 12:42

I loved the bit where everyone changed into The Master because I was thinking how good JS was at giving every person an individual style - and then I watched Confidential and realised what a laborious process it was! He was VERY uncomfortable about being filmed in a dress though
