What toy for a 1yo girl?

Need to get something for a friend's DD who is just 1... she doesn't have many 'girly' toys as most are hand-me-downs from her big brother so any ideas of something that might be nice?

I seem to remember a MNer recommending a toy handbag that their DD had loved, but that was ages ago...
