Ridiculous Christmas tradition

Dh's family like everyone to give a Christmas card to everyone.

So, I will recieve 6 Christmas cards, respectively from mil, pil, each sil, bil and my niece(who is 5 months old). Dh will also get 6, as above. Dd will get 6 and 1 yr old ds will get 6.

In turn, Dh, dd, ds and I each have to send 6. I have to buy 24 sodding Christmas cards to give to the 6 people I am spending Christmas day with.

Bah. And, what's more, humbug.

And what's more, pil will just do a vague scribble in each of his 6 cards. I assume he signs his name but it could just as easily be a brief rude message.

Actually, pil does more than 6 cards because they all do each other too. I do them (grudgingly) but draw the line there and will not be presenting dh, dd and ds each with a Christmas card "love from Mummy" .

Definitely go all eco warrior on them. Go on and on about the rain forests.

Don't do it. will they really care? will it spoil christmas? will they notice?

pretend all day, you're not sure whih bag the cards are in, you'll look in a minute... repeat this a few times and before you knwo it it'll be boxing day and no one will care/remember.

i used to kill myself over christmas, baking/matching wrapping/ themed decs etc, and eventaully realised no one really cared, it didn't amke christmas better or worse. everyone would go 'oh that looks nice' to my home cooked christmas teatime buffet, scoff thier faces and forget about it, aftre I'd spent 3 nights cookng until 1 in the morning. now i buy the stuff no one cares. Still say 'oh that;s nice as scoff faces.'

my point is-it probably won't matter if you just don't do it.

My family used to do this.

Last year my DB sent one card saying 'from all of us to all of you' to me. I thought that was a genius idea so I've done the same this year. My DH was a bit peed off that his parents got one card from the four of us, rather than one from us and one each from the 2 DCS. But I pointed out that no matter how many we send they will be in the bin in 2 weeks he agreed (or it might have been my suggestion that he could send as many as he likes if he buys and writes them himself )

Just stop doing it and front it out.

But I don't really see a huge problem with it.

I presume you all send each other birthday cards if it's their birthday (even if you're spending the day with them?). To me it's no different to that.

Oh hang on - just realised that each of you have to send them individually. That is rather bonkers.

I would possibly (for grandparents/parents) do one from your DC and one from you and DH, but the rest I would just send from "all of you".

I don't do Christmas cards to the people I'm seeing on the day at all, ever. I say "Happy Christmas" instead. Works a treat.

Agree re the eco-warrior approach. It's the only way to go.
