Arse - Have bought DS (4) a somewhat worthy present. He really wants remote control car. Any suggestions for one that is not tat, but not too expensive?

Obviously wasn't aware that he was coveting the car before I bought him the vtech digital camera (with thoughts of him composing master pieces on wintery walks).

Not one for pandering to the whims of a 4 year old, but he does seem to genuinely want a remote control car. Fear horrible disappointment on Christmas Day, but am on maternity leave so can't spend too much more on him. BUT do not want to buy utter rubbish that will fall apart and be more trouble than its worth.

Would really appreciate some suggestions for a good one.

My DS(3) had one very similar to this for his b'day. Is it great, flashing lights, bounces off the walls... they got it from harrods toy shop, but I am sure they are elsewhere... My DS has a fire engine one.

Robust and flashing lights is the perfect combo for DS. Will summon DH and his trusty wallet.

The reviews on amazon are a bit mixed for that car. One saying it breaks easily.

I recommend the Morphibians cars from Early Learning centre. They are indestructible, we have had them on the beach, everywhere. Eat batteries but don't they all?

My DC's (4&5) are still pretty rough with toys so I didn't want to get them anything too fragile.

I bought it and honestly it looiks really good. 2 cars for the price of one and they are not tiny ones either. free delivery too.

We have the flipping over car with the lights (present from sis-in-law) but imo they never have batteries when you want them to and there is no such thing as indestructible when you have more than 2 four year old boys in the same room. I would stick to what you have bought and suggest it if grandma or other relatives ask what he wants.
DS is 4 and really wants a Power Ranger and a robot dinosaur. He is getting a marble run some Lego and Playmobil and a couple of (non robotic) dinosaurs On the day they will be super hyped up and excited with whatever they get-usually the crappy stocking fillers get the best reception.

I kind of agree LadyG. I am fairly sure this sudden need for RC car will be utterly forgotten on the day. Not keen on buying annoying toys that drive already temperamental DS up the wall. Also hate stuff where batteries have to be constantly charged/replaced. DS is getting Playmobil from my parents, some lego, the camera, lots of pens/crayons/paper and the usual stocking stuff (which he loved last year). Am thinking that is quite enough for one so small!

Hmmmm - need to think about this one a bit more.

We got the ELC ones last year. One of each for each boy (5.12 and 3.6). They're great and still look fine too. They've been played with lots, and by lots of visiting boys.

This morning DS2 announced he was looking forward to getting his R2D2 "controller" for Christmas. So remote control very popular here. I don't find them irritating.

We've got a RC Lightning McQueen for ds2 who is 3.

We got a RC Roary from Waitrose for ds for his birthday. It is good, easy enough for me to operate and it goes backwards, forwards, left and right, there is an optional noise feature (disbaled in this house) with Roary talking and making vroom vroom noises etc.
