Making Christmas decorations - any tips?

Does anyone make Christmas decs? I'm thinking about making some salt dough shapes and painting them but wondered if anyone had any other ideas.

Also, I have lots of holly and pine tree bits from the back garden which I have diligently collected but now I'm not sure what to do with it. I had grand ideas of making a wreath but now I don't know what to do.

Any ideas?

I semi-made some - a paper chain kit by Rex for a fiver, with the pieces already cut out, you just stick them together with the stickers provided. DD1, 3.4 loves doing them when she wakes up at 5.30!
