I did start this thread already but for some reason cannot add another message to it.

B&Q have half price lights at the moment so thought we might get some new ones this year but not sure what colour to get (we have white at the moment) Our neighbours don't go in for anything tacky so need to avoid anything that will make them moan so which of the following do you think are and aren't? So far I have seen:

red
blue
green
pink
purple
multicoloured
red berry
rope lights
coloured lanterns

Plain white lights. When I went to Cologne Christmas markets a few years ago, all their outside lights were white, including domestic residences. It was stunning.

We have white lights in all the trees on my drive and white raindeer outside the kitchen window. It looks lovely, esp as we have no streetlights so it really lights up the night

Check out the other thread about blue christmas light for what not to buy

IMO, blue, rope, flashing are all out!

I would go with white (not flashing and not icicles) personally. Or lanterns.

I like the sound of lanterns for a retro-Dickens vibe. Or the red berry lights.
White is dull (I have white because I couldn't fix up the multi-coloured ones).
