Mission Impossible? Christmas gift for dp

monkeysmama · 03/12/2009 17:28

My dp is very hard to buy for and I need some suggestions. What are you buying for yours?

He has an ipod, wii, fancy laptop etc.

He has a beautiful work bag, I've already ordered a special picture of me and dd, he has gloves, a wallet etc.

He has expensive tastes in clothes but buys what he wants when he sees it so I never buy him clothes.

I have no ideas at all .

TIA

Stuff magazine? Apparently, quite techy.

DaftApeth · 03/12/2009 21:19

Trumpers gift voucher for a wet shave.

MisSalToeKisses · 03/12/2009 21:19

Ok, this sounds a bit odd, but I know dh would like this from National Geographic.

DaftApeth · 03/12/2009 21:20

Sorry these vouchers are for ''in-shop''

saladfingers · 03/12/2009 21:22

Focus magazine or New Scientist?

MisSalToeKisses · 03/12/2009 21:32

DaftApeth, that place looks really nice.

dairymoo · 03/12/2009 21:42

MisSalToeKisses - my DH would like that too, but £64 quid....fairly expensive for potentially not very much info.

aristocat · 03/12/2009 21:45

Tilly my DH just bought himself a weather station
boys and their toys!........eh???

aristocat · 03/12/2009 21:49

monkeys the weather station is a gadget that tells you --
the outside temp/inside temp
humidity levels
date/time
weather forecast for next 8hrs

essential piece of kit for a man, no?

stealthsquiggle · 03/12/2009 21:52

send him to play with some Eagles?

MisSalToeKisses · 03/12/2009 21:54

Oh agree completely, dairymoo - I'm baffled by his gift preferences (which is why I'm stalking OP's thread for tips! ) At least he's got more sense with my presents!

dairymoo · 03/12/2009 22:09

Does he have any other geneology stuff that he'd recommend? My DH is all of a sudden v interested in 'who do you think you are' and I think something like this would go down well.

monkeysmama · 03/12/2009 22:46

These suggestions are all good and hopefully helping others too. Keep 'em coming.

MisSalToeKisses · 03/12/2009 22:50

Dairymoo, no sorry, but I did find these free / mostly free links that might be of interest?

monkeysmama · 04/12/2009 13:11

Daftapeth I have had a good look at that site and like the idea of it though I am a bit put off that they date all vouchers May 2010 and they can't be used until then.

He has very sore feet so the instore chiropodist appealed to me. Does anyone know of a massage place for men in London that doesn't offer "additional services" and then maybe I could get him a nice gift box from there?

MSTK what have you heard about Apple tv? We have an Apple laptop, ipods, iphones etc & it sounds interesting but I am a bit confused what it actually is .

Monkeysmama, it's a network media player that can play movies and music from your home network or the internet via i-tunes, as well as YouTube, internet radio and photos from your iPhoto library etc. One of the main benefits is that it is easy to set-up and a stylish, small product. I'm sure that's not how they sell it, but I see it as a visual Ipod almost, enabling you to stream data to your tv. Basically, you can see your photos etc on your TV, and you can rent rent movies via i-tunes to watch on tv, or watch . Despite the name, it's not a "tv player", in my mind, as you can't use it to record programmes etc.

I guess it depends on how geeky your dp wants to go - my dh likes to be able to solve world hunger do more with our set-up, so has built a similar setup with other (non-Apple) components that has more mind numbing uses. If I had to buy one for myself, on the other hand, I'd have gone for Apple TV - clean lines, small, simple to setup, will do what I want (rent movies without having to go out or see it on laptop / look at pics / videos from my Iphoto / Imovie collection etc)

Lots of salons offer men's treatments.

I know a few around here do.

Or what about this one?

Get him a wax!

monkeysmama · 04/12/2009 22:45

MSTK thanks again. Am going to Apple store tomorrow to have a look. Hope your info will stop
me being totally bamboozled.

DA that looks good. Thanks very much. Really good idea.

My pleasure.

helips · 05/12/2009 14:12

How about a really nice bottle of wine? That way you could help him drink it! Also, a wine decanter to go with it?

Have you looked at Smythson? They do some really nice leather goods, bit pricey but it sounds like your husband likes expensive things

You could get some nice socks, undies, scarf etc from Paul Smith online.

Aftershave, smellies? My husband likes Elemis products.

tostaky · 05/12/2009 16:32

Not wine, but i bought my DP a bottle of really nice cognac and he loved it.
also chocs from high-end la maison du chocolat
what about offering him his sailing permit? my DP does this and i think it costed £300 and with the first "stage" (there are 3 i think b4 they can go on the sea) he also got a year membership at whatever wharf in canary wharf.

foxinsocks · 05/12/2009 16:35

has he got a cufflink box? you can get v nice ones

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 05/12/2009 17:53

I've bought dh a usb turntable. hope he likes it.

btw, in our house it is me who hankers after fancy weather stations

kateecass · 05/12/2009 21:26

I have a fancy shmancy weather station in our house!!
It means I know how many layers to put on the kids before setting off outside, whether to take brolly, rain cover etc.

My DH is asking for a PS3, which I won't be getting him.

John Lewis had great posh chocolate stocking fillers. Got one of those huge Hotel Du Chocolate slabs. Yum

I've also got him a snowboarding lesson among other things

TheHouseofMirth · 06/12/2009 09:40

What about a subscription to Ancestry.co.uk?

I'm thinking of getting DH a voucher for a float: here
