Ahh Pav thats good to know. Its something we heard him say he'd like to try so hoping he'd like it

Spidermama · 20/11/2009 21:02

I'm getting my mum a carpet sweeper. She can't be bothered hauling the hoover out every time and plugging it in now she's getting on a bit. I think she'll love the nice, light carpet sweeper.

MIL bought one for me so the kids can use it. It's fab!

BrigitBigKnickers · 20/11/2009 21:02

My mum and MIL (and my dad)are getting tickets to see River Dance (all going together on same night as they get on well).

They all love RIverdance BTW- I'm not trying to torture them!

MarthaFarquhar · 20/11/2009 21:03

MIL - tickets to see Frankie Boyle. She likes a bit of filth.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 20/11/2009 21:04

Ooh, just remembered, last year we bought my parents one of those little cameras to put into a bird box and watch the chicks like on Springwatch. They loved it.

RTKangaMummy · 20/11/2009 21:19

where did you get the bird box camera ????

Waswondering
We were given a cheese board with dome thing recently and it is ace. Keeps the cheese fresh for ages, and you have no fiddling about taking wrappers off the cheese before you use it.

due to all the great ideas, mil and fil are now sorted! genius! never thought they'd be the first two i could knock off my list
thanks all!

just my mum now! she's a nightmare to get anything for. she's just inherited some money and rightly so, has bought a few things for herself but it means that we're even shorter of ideas for her now!

MmeLindt · 20/11/2009 22:03

Recently discovered this website on MN.

I bought my Mum an iPod for her birthday and she was delighted.

DaftApeth · 20/11/2009 22:33

I have just ordered this for my mum.

Will probably get some sort of clothing accessory for mil. Maybe gloves or hat.

Dad will get cashmere socks.

Fil is getting a herb planter.

rootbeerfan · 22/11/2009 18:41

herbie where do you find a mini pineapple plant? sounds like my mum's thing!

My mum - jewellery and/or accessories from East

MIL - a bunch of flowers from the co-op (she would find fault with any present chosen by me)

  • disclaimer - the co-op Christmas bouquet last year was actually lovely and lasted ages
hormonalmum · 22/11/2009 21:28

mum - home made xmas cake, copy of family photo we had done earlier this year and a rose bush.
Also 2 cd's from me and my brother

mil - home made xmas cake, copy of family photo, scarf and a little something else.

step mil - home made xmas cake & copy of family photo (that wont see light again) perhaps a nice bottle of wine too.

Beauregard · 22/11/2009 21:32

Have bought my mom a dressing gown ,a cute bow beret and a leather purse.

Mil is getting f all from me
Dp has stretched to a box of turkish delight for her

duckyfuzz · 22/11/2009 21:34

elemis gift set they're always a good deal and usually get a freebie with it

MamaGoblin · 23/11/2009 18:28

MIL a complete nightmare to buy for. So far I've got her a small box of marzipan. We usually end up getting her a fleece jumper or something scintillating like that. Toiletries are no good - there are still sets DH got her about 7 years ago, lovingly displayed in their original packaging on the guestroom windowsill...

My own mother - if I finish it in time, she's getting a knitted lace scarf in lovely yarn from me, and a photo diary for next year with DS all over it , and something from her Amazon wishlist.

mistletoekisses · 23/11/2009 18:57

MIL has received a hamper the last few christmases - she has a sweet tooth and loves the various biscuits/ chocs and tea that come in them. This year is the Duchy Originals Christmas Hamper.

Mum is much harder to buy for - but this year am doing a sort of joint gift to myself and her - a family photo session that includes DB and his family, so she has one lovely photo with both her kids and all grandkids!

gigglewitch · 23/11/2009 19:05

dm is getting an mp3 with a few classical tunes and some audiobooks on - oh and school pic of the dc.
mil has a school photo (lovely one~) of the dc and a box of maltesers so far I hope dh has more ideas than me!!

FritesMenthe · 23/11/2009 20:02

MIL - a pile of books including Maeve Binchy and some others suggested by ever-helpful MNetters. Might add DaftApeth's Ronan Keating CD, as she would love the Carrickfergus track. And a photo calendar from Snapfish with family photos (can highly recommend BTW)

My mum - calendar, as above. She usually asks for art materials. And a trip to Harrods to meet Santa, plus lunch!

Takver · 23/11/2009 20:55

Mum - gift membership to the RHS, then I'm going to take her to the Hampton Court flower show as a birthday present. Big pressie this year as its her 70th & also she's only had tiny presents for several years due to lack of inspiration!

MiL is relatively easy to buy for as she has less money and a much bigger house than my parents

iheartdusty · 23/11/2009 21:42

Thanks for excellent suggestions here - Dsis and I are jointly getting a nestbox with camera, and as it is pricy it will be for Christmas and birthdays for both DM and DF - 4 hits in one
