Help!

9 yo ds main 'interest' is computer or nintendo ds games - preferably Pokemon related. We have absolutely no wish to perpetuate this interest so will NOT be getting him anything electronic games related.

Which leaves the question what do we get him? Little stocking filler type pressies are fairly easy, but we are stuck for his main present. We tend to get boths dcs one 'big' thing at Christmas - previously have bought one or both or them bikes, musical instruments, nintendo ds's, that type of thing. Dd will be getting an mp3, so we want to spend the same - around £50 on ds. Any ideas?

Digital camera? Watch?
How about some family board games if you want to encourage non electronic activities eg Ticket To Ride, Carcasonne, Risk?

stilts
pogo stick
basketball and net
bow and arrows (older child's version)

How about Lego? My 9 yr old DS is Lego crazy. Also Bakugan.

football table (needs a friend but maybe your dd would do)!
Obv depends how much space you have!

DS, (approaching 9)wants a decent skateboard, and would love anything football related. He would also like a basketball and net, but our garden is very small....

My DS is just turned 10 he still really gets lots of use out of Lego. At his recent birthday he got 2 NERF guns, which fire kindof little orange bits of polystyrene out.
Is he ready for Chess or anything like that if you dont like the computer/games consoles?

bigTillyMint · 19/11/2009 17:29

Actually, that's true - DS is loving his lego at the moment

Arggh, ds (also 9) has just written his wish list, it is ALL Wii games!

Told him Santa only brings one computer game per child (surely that's true??), so we have also got:

Lego (he particularly loves all the lego people so he can make up imaginary movies about them);
Domino Rally;
Fish Tank

Last Christmas we bought Quick Chess, it was a great success, he plays avidly (in between playing the Wii of course).
