Any recommendations of a good tractor toy for a 2 year old? Ideally I'd like to get one that you can put things in (driver, animals etc.), and which also does something like run across the floor on its own.
Any ideas? Anything to particularly avoid?

This ELC one and the corresponding combine harvester are very popular with my dcs (although not quite what you're looking for, perhaps).

Playmobil do a good one for about £25 that you can put people and things into, but maybe more suitabke for 3+ age?

If your ds loves tractors you can't beat the Tractor Ted dvds. They've been watched over and over again here and are actually really interesting.

Actually, for a 2yo, the Bob the Builder Travis (about £6 iirc) is good - the friction one does go across the room on its own, although my two have never really bothered doing that with it.

ds (21mo) has this one and totally totally loves it. The trailer hooks/unhooks easily (magnetic) and carries a sheep. The tractor carries the farmer and dog. There's also a pen, so ds "drives" the tractor to the pen, takes the sheep out and herds in into the pen. It's friction powered, so can run across floor on its own, and has a bumpy motion as it does so.

Travis is a really good idea - had a look at the ELC one Mrs JD (you're clearly the right person to ask about this!!), but the reviews say it's a bit fragile?
Was hoping for something a bit more realistic, MamaChris, but that does look good, and does just what I wanted in a tractor.
Anybody else have any more ideas?
