Do you cook a meal?
If so, what?

Cullen Skink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/11/2009 19:37

Bonsoir - does the fishmonger deliver to England?

pierogi and borsch for us

Sassyfrassy · 05/11/2009 19:38

We have swedish christmas on christmas eve, so lots of ham, meatballs, little sausages, herring, smoked salmon, gravlax and whatever else takes my fancy. Mainly I eat all the fishy stuff while dh (who isn't swedish) munches on the meat. DDs usually try a bit of everything =)

kickassmama · 05/11/2009 20:26

When kiddies in bed me and dh sit down with a bottle of champers and i do us a little picnic of rolls and snackie bits and we watch either home alone 1 or 2.can't wait i love xmas

mrsruffallo · 06/11/2009 13:36

Chinese takeaway always hits the spot on xmas eve.

katie3677 · 06/11/2009 14:39

We have a 'German' meal, as I am half that way inclined, usally cold meats, pumpernickel (Rye bread type stuff), Gravadlax, stollen and party bites for the kids. The we open a few presents, the kids watch a Christmassy DVD and go to bed once they've seen Father Christmas (My dad) walking down the garden path to check if they're asleep! Then I'm up until midnight doing stockings, wrapping pressies etc

Ninks · 06/11/2009 14:48

We have Chinese too. When I was little my parents could only afford it a couple of times a year so we'd eat it after midnight mass and open one tree present. Then we'd sleep in later

MorrisZapp · 06/11/2009 14:51

Oh god yes. Anybody else remember when a Chinese was like, the biggest imaginable luxury on earth?

We used to have them roughly every 6 months like you. I can still remember the uncontrollable feeling of anticipation when we used to hear my dad come in downstairs and shout 'Chinese!' up at us.

Happy days

JANEITEluddite · 06/11/2009 23:09

Either raclette ie: new potatoes, melty cheese, pickles etc or a cold buffet with veggie sausage rolls, cheese board, pickles etc. Always to be followed by meringues with cream and raspberries plus mince pies and Baileys.

I am so excited about being at home this year! We haven't been at home since 2000 and it will only be the second time in our whole married lives we've been at home. dd2 and dd3 have NEVER had a Christmas at home.

Anyway we're at home (had I mentioned that? ) so i will be cooking at Christmas Eve - very exciting, don't know what to do yet - maybe ham, maybe lasagne - oooooh.

By the way I'm at home this year for Christmas - just in acse you'd missed that info.

AvengingGerbil · 06/11/2009 23:18

Fish Pie.

mrsruffallo · 07/11/2009 07:57

For some reason the idea of a takeaway makes me squirm. Unless it's from wagamama... I wonder if they deliver

northernlurker. Enjoy being at home!

Its only at christmas that I feel the benefits of having moved 1000 km away from my family....

what will we eat? Last year it was probably bread and cheese, as I was still madly tidying.
Am trying to be more organised this year.

mrsruffallo · 07/11/2009 08:05

Is northern lurker at home this year then?

OP posts:
LIZS · 07/11/2009 08:10

usually salmon - en croute or with watercress sauce.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 07/11/2009 08:14

cheese straws, oilve pinwheels, olives, fresh bread, selection of cheese and cold meats, mulled wine, tawny port, mince pies.

Me too, Northernlurker. 1st time in years. Family coming to us. Beside myself with excitement.
May do huge venison casserole...or the ham...or a curry...or buffet thing...or pulled pork...or lamb shanks...

Whatever goes with bubbly.

biggirlsdontcry · 07/11/2009 10:28

we order a domino's before the dc's have their baths etc no cooking for me on xmas eve .

Squishabelle · 07/11/2009 10:29

Indian take-away - always. Same on New Years Eve.

dawntigga · 07/11/2009 10:31

Picking at stuff - it's my birthday and I'll be damned if I'm cooking a meal! Sausage rolls, pigs in a blanket - stuff that will get served the next day as well.

dxx

frasersmummy · 07/11/2009 10:36

something that I can prep on the 23d,and stick in the oven on the 24th when we are fed up/finished wrapping (another organised household)

so eg lasagne, shepherds pie, chicken chasseur

pointydogg · 07/11/2009 10:42

mini santa pizzas, a yule log. A few extra nibbles for the adults.

The kids are always so exciteid they have no appetite so I learned early on not to knock my pan in making a christmas eve meal.
