need advice about roller skates!

both the dc's have asked for roller skates this christmas, but since i last had a pair (in the 80's!), there are so many different types to choose from, i am lost!

dd is almost 8, and a shoe size 2, ds is 4, and a shoe size 10.

what should i be looking at?, in-line, roller blades, or old fashioned disco skates?

and what about heely's?, or are they the work of the devil?

Both mine had roller blades - aged about 4 and 6. They took to them fine, but DD's best friend found it very difficult to get the hang of balancing. We got the adjustable type, so they have lasted about 3 years!

Roller blades look way cooler than the boots!

As for Heeleys, we've never bought any, but they're not really the same as roller blades - you can't really go for a skate in them.

dd isn't the best at balancing, am wondering if she would be better with the traditional quad skates. ds would be ok on roller blades
