wii games?? which ones

HI, wasn't sure whether to put this here or in products. I am buying Ds (will be just turned 6) a wii for christmas. he has slight special needs and i thought buying him this would help with co-ordination and motor skils as well as being fun. Now i am stuck as to what games to buy as there are so many about. i am looking at games the whole family can play as well as games more orientated for ds.

can i have all your recommendations, which games can you/you kids simply not stop playing with?

The most enduring games in our collection are:-

Wii Play that comes with the extra remote/nunchuck (if you look around it does, anyway).

Mario Kart (we love it as much, if not more than dd and play with our adult friends after a glass of wine/beer on a Saturday night).

Mario at the Olympics.

Those tend to be the ones that come out over and over again.

We found the Wii Fit interesting for a little while and the same applied to Wii Sport but they didn't have much staying power.

Also, friends have the lego star wars one and ds says that it good.

I don't use it, and 3yo ds has no clue with the controls so can't comment on family use.

Completely agree. Ds' (just turned 8) favourites are:

Wii Play

Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games

He also has Star Wars: Complete Saga and Sonic Rings but I think these are more complex.

Wii Fit is used ocasionally.

Dd (4 and not really technically minded/motivated) has ''Disney Princesses: Enchanted Journey'' which is very basic and she is just beginning to get to grips with it. If there is a similar game aimed at boys, it would be a good one to start with.

I'd go in to somewhere like 'Game' and ask their advice. Their second hand games are pretty good value compared to the stonking prices of the new ones!

Have fun. I actually quite ike the wii as it encourages them to be more active than the playstation and nintendo ds.

Ds was bought an extra wii-mote and nunchuk for his birthday which has been very useful too.

We have a Wii and use the games that come with it more than anything else. We have a balance board so most used games are Wii Fit, Wii Resort (just out with new Motion Plus)and Wii Sports. Mario Kart is great, and 5yr old DS loves Boom Blocks, and Mario Galaxy. Def get two controllers and nunchuks.

We do the same as Squilly and play after a few too many glasses of wine on a Saturday night with friends and family.

It can be worth renting some games before you buy to get an idea of them - we've rented Ratatouille and it's good but probably not a keeper although ds (4) does like repeating the segments he knows how to do.

Lego Indiana Jones is a keeper, we all enjoy that.

DH and I like Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City but ds is less keen.

ds also likes Ice Age 3, and Madagascar 2 is probably the best-designed game of all the movie-tie-in ones we have (Indiana Jones is pretty good too and you get the first three films so lots of adventures).

ds is far too fond of Shrek 3, which is a complete pile of poop but hey. He likes it. I have just succumbed and bought it having had it as a rental for months.

where do you rent from?

The library.

We have Guinness Book of Records which is quite good but some things require a bit of dexterity.

hum, not a great choice at our library (Cambs)

If there's a particular one you want then I'm pretty sure they can order it in from another library for you to rent.

I know that (use a rural library van and order in alot), just did a search of the online lists and v few wii games on it. Maybe better in some counties than others.

Wii sports is brill, get a package that comes with it, best game and easy for a 6 year old, tiring though

We are having a TON of fun with Raymans Raving Rabbids TV party at the moment. Mario Kart and any of the Lego series are huge hits too. Kids 8 and 5.

I rent from Tesco DVD rental but tons of places do rental schemes - LoveFilm, Amazon ..

DS1 is 5.10, and we've had the wii for just over a year.

He loves lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones. They are not too complex for him, but he did play them with DH to start with and does sometimes need some help. They are designed for older children and adults but they're not unsuitable. He also has Batman lego which is (IMO) unsuitable for a five year old.

We've borrowed mario galaxy which they enjoy.

They also like pikmin, g-force, mario olympics and mariocart.

They got DH sports resort for his birthday, and they have fun playing some of it.

My DS has been saving for a Wii and at last is very close to having the cash to buy one. I've seen it retailing at John Lewis for £159.00 9with Wii Sport) It comes with one basic remote.

It's his 10th birthday soon and I have promised we'll get him some extras to go with the Wii. I was thinking along the lines of:

Wii Play
Mario Kart
Another remote - do I need more than 2? (there are 3 of us in the family old enough to play on the Wii)
Steering wheel
Remote control charger unit

Do you think this is a good list? if it's v expensive I may suggest to family they get some of the bits - and there's Xmas too of course.

Is sports resort different to the Wii sport that comes with the Wii?

Sports resort is different and uses (I think) the Wii Fit balance board (another £70).

There are some multiplayer games but you can probably get away with two to start with. We don't have a charger unit but charge the batteries in our existing charger. But a charger unit would be simpler.

We have two steering wheels (for two person racing on mariokart) but tbh we don't really use them.

And he needs a couple of games. Mario galaxy and Star Wars lego are probably good. You can get games second hand for about £15 - we get most of ours from the pre-used shelf.

wii Play itself isn't worth having, but it comes with a wii remote for cheaper than the remote itself.

it is worth looking at packages with extras, it might be that it works out cheaper overall - and you could save the extra's for his birthday.

mario kart comes with the wheel.

can't comment on what a 10yo would enjoy, list of what my just 7yo enjoys is earlier in the thread.

You don't need the balance board with Sports Resort , it comes with one motion plus adapter for the basic control btu you also need a nunchuck and preferably another controller, motion plus adapter and nunchuck so you can play more than one at a time.

Wii with Sports Resort, Wario Shake and Mario Kart (with steering wheel) is in Currys for £179 just now. (don't anyone dare find a better deal as I've just ordered for ds's xmas! )

Would anyone be able to recommend games for teenagers please?

I want to buy a Wii for a joint Christmas present, i like the Currys price above!...would those games be suitable for older teenagers?

What on earth is a nuncchuck?!!!

What is the verdict on the wii fit then? Is it worth £60/70?
