im NOT a computer person at all. OH got me a ds last xmas and i have used it about 3 times. ds has one game for it and would play on it every now and again. (i limit it)

i had suggested getting ds an art easel, Oh responded by saying he wanted to get him a wii. i reminded him taht ds was 4 and that was a hell of a lot of money to spend on a xmas gift.

he says well what about getting it for all of us. ie; him. he says its good fun for having friends round.

there really is only one couple that we socialize with and as OH is in the navy, he only gets home 1 or 2 weekends a month. he also has one on his ship. i know i wont use it and i dont want to encourage ds to spend a lot of time on a computer. i dont know how much they cost but i do know it is quite alot and i just cannot justify it at all.

am i being a real spoilsport or am i right and if so, how can i explain this to OH.

SardineQueen, please rant away. You are putting into words all the stuff that usually goes round and round inside my head about my dp and his gadget obsession.

We now have a huge-ish plasma tv (which other men are envious of when they come round) a home cinema set-up which doesn't work properly (but he doesn't believe me because he doesn't notice, which I think is because he's going slightly deaf) a digital photo frame, a Roomba (vacuum cleaner robot), a SONOS music system, two freeview boxes with hard drives, and a Wii and he wonders why the electricity bill has gone up in the past year.

Except he doesn't wonder because I'm the one who pays for the electricity, and goes around the house switching things off when I can be bothered.

and neither of us play on the Wii because he's usually fast asleep on the sofa with some crap Vin Diesel film on the TV.

I'm ranting now. Should go to bed.

oh but I should just add, when I was pregnant with ds1 he bought me some new Playstation games as he thought I'd have loads of time on my hands when on maternity leave . Guess who hasn't touched the Playstation since before ds1 was born?

Men are a bit funny about gadgets, aren't they? We discussed a Wii, but decided that as DH has a PS2 that he's used a total of 3 times in the past 6 months, there's no point spending money on a Wii until our little ones are older and it gets more "family use." DH sold his surround sound stereo system as it had tower speakers that he deemed "unsafe" around the toddler. I managed to get him to switch from contract mobile with the latest phone to PAYG mobile, which he is now perfectly happy with, not even worried about getting a fancier phone anymore.

Best of all, he's agreed to wait until our youngest is at least 6-7 years old before we buy a bigger television. We agreed we will only buy a new one if this one dies for some reason. (I used the logic that I'd rather wait until the kids are old enough to "appreciate" the big TV and aren't wiping smudgy fingerprints and such all over it! )

It's like our own little 10-step programme to wean him off some of the gadgets. LOL

i am buying a wii for christmas as a present for the whole family. i want it for the wii fit stuff so i can lose a bit of weight. my brother (26) wants it for the shooting games, ds1 wants to annihilate zombies, ds2 wants to play raving rabbids, and the 2 little girls just want to fiddle about, probably get them a few little diddly games. having said that, we dont have any other games consoles except a v-smile which i am looking to sell coz the girls have got bored of it, and the boys (and my brother) have a ds each.
