When are you supposed to take down Christmas decorations?

DH says that if we take them down too early, it's unlucky. But I thought if you took them down too late, it's unlucky.
Is there an optimum luck date?

lucky for some, my birthday is the eighth!

When I was little I was seriously ill one year and my Mum left our tree up for weeks as I loved it.

It made me very happy and it must have driven her mad as it was literally a stick by then end of it.

I think 6th is fine normally.

Ours came down this evening. Always a relief.
Love getting back to normal tomorrow.

I thought I was being a bit Scroogey, as I couldn't wait to take them down. Apparently not, though! Was having this discussion with my dh and his parnets. I always thought you took them down on the 6th, as 12th Night was part of Christmas. However you will all be relieved to know that you should take them down on the 5th. This was told to me by those-who-know-everything-and therefore-are-always-right. AKA my parents-in-law.

Just finished clipping 150 fairly lights back into their holders!

Now have stuff in boxes waiting to go back into the loft.....

Oh, and a carpet that needs a good hoover!

Mine would have come down on the 2nd if I wasn't so lazy. Have just taken them down now but have left lights in window for now as it's the first year I've had them and I like them.
