do you just let them get up whenever?
do you tell them an acceptable time (and is it any earlier than your normal regular time?
and will you march them back to bed if they get up earlier than that?

We have always said 8am no earlier. But dd1 is heading into teen sleep mode so not sure if she will be up by then this year!

Mine get up INCREDIBLY early - around 4.30. Here's my tip.

One of their shared presents is always a DVD, and a box containing a "packed breakfast" (like a packed lunch but with cereal and pain au chocolat or something like that. And some treats, obviously.) Orgy of present opening over, they cuddle down on the beanbag together with DVD and breakfast and we go back to bed for a while. Then we get up again and Christmas Day begins again. Try it - it's brilliant.

DS1 (9 and NT) will be up at 6, very excited

DS2 (5 and autistic) will be up at usual time, totally unaware

MrsMattie · 23/12/2008 18:17

Same as normal - around 7.30-8am

janeite · 23/12/2008 18:18

I like the packed breakfast idea. But we always had a 7.30am rule.

stillenacht · 23/12/2008 18:19

7.30!!! 8am!! HOW??????

Even if DS1 goes to bed at 10 or 11 he is up at 6 or 6.30 tops.

Blimey i remember getting up when i wasa little at 3.30am one year!

LIZS · 23/12/2008 18:20

A civilised 7.30-8 !

ChristmasDisco · 23/12/2008 18:42

I'm hoping and praying its not before 7am

janeite · 23/12/2008 18:45

How? If they woke up earlier (rare), they were tucked back in again. Once they were a bit older, they got up at 7.00ish and opened stockings in dd1's room.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 23/12/2008 18:47

once they are about 5 you can just tell them
dont come in until we shout you

once they can tell the time, you just tell them the time to come in to your room, clutching their stockings

7:30 am, I aM SETTING an alarm for them, it's about when it gets light here, anyway. They will have to wait an extra 10 minutes for each time they disturb me before 7am (in theory!) before I give them their stockings (we don't teach them about FC).

Otherwise, they'd be stomping around at 1am shouting at each other about what they found in their stockings and scoffing chockies.

thexmasstockingmonsterofdoom · 23/12/2008 18:49

I think I will allow 6, we normally say 7 so that is reasonable, dh will not agree, but he can stay in bed and miss it if he is being grumpy
