luvaduck · 22/12/2008 23:08

can you make the pastry the night before and leave in fridge overnight??
how long does pastry keep uncooked?

It says rest in fridge for 20 mins but presumably its also ok overnight??? (look at the time - can't believe i volunteered to make them and pretend i'm some sort of domestic goddess - as if)

TIA

Non nigella shortcrust can be wrapped in cling in the fridge - I assume her recipe is similar enough to do the same

luvaduck · 22/12/2008 23:11

thanks!

Do take it out a bit before you want to use it

thumbElf · 22/12/2008 23:13

I still have short pastry in the fridge that I made about 2 weeks ago, wrapped in clingfilm - it still seems to be ok, but will have to take it out and smell it (to check it doesn't smell of plastic from the clingfilm) before I make the mince pies. It was originally for something else but I forgot to use it!

it lasts for a good while - tis butter/lard flour so lasts as long as they would. you can freeze it too

NotanOtter · 22/12/2008 23:23

not sure about keeping it but WOW

this is great pastry

made it on friday and again saturday and amazingly crumbly melt in mouth lush

thumbElf · 22/12/2008 23:46

my pastry is also amazingly crunbly melty in the mouth lush too, NaO - it is also gluten free! Made with Dove's farm GF plain flour, to their recipe - I finally learnt the art of good pastry really is to keep the manipulation to an absolute minimum - when I made flans for DS's christening, lots of people asked me for the recipe and complimented me on my pastry..

luvaduck · 23/12/2008 00:12

oo good tips here
mine looks pretty good so far (what a stupid thing to say though - now its cursed)

NaO - do you mean the nigella pasrty - which mince pies did you make?

thumbElf · 23/12/2008 00:57

s'ok then! glad you're back - how's your hair? (that was you, wasn't it?)

TWINSETinapeartree · 23/12/2008 01:05

My hair is fine, should it not be. There was a thread about my fringe if that is what you mean.

thumbElf · 23/12/2008 01:10

was it not you who had a haircut that you weren't over happy with?

TWINSETinapeartree · 23/12/2008 01:12

No but I can remember the thread can't remember who the OP was though.

TWINSETinapeartree · 23/12/2008 01:13

is this the thread

thumbElf · 23/12/2008 01:28

nope, it was about getting long hair cut shorter and whether or not to go for a fringe. Sorry, I really thought it was you...

I'll get me coat. Gotta go dress a nekkid tree now anyway!
