Present dilemma.....

Ds has three things on his list (it was longer but I said he had to short-list it to 3!!).

  1. a tv for his bedroom
  2. glasses with wobbly eyes
  3. NDS games x3 (including Mario Bros)

So, I've now told him he won't be having a tv and he dealt with it very well! I've got the glasses. I've got him a Garfield game for the DS and my Mum has a DS game for him (can't remember which one but I know it's not Mario).

I don't know whether to get him a Mario game now or not. I don't really want to get any more and might suggest he get the game with any Christmas money he gets. He'll be getting stacks of other things from the family but I feel bad after making him greatly reduce his list to then not get the things that are on it. Also, I'm not entirely sure which Mario game he wants!! I think I should let him choose it himself after Christmas shouldn't I!

did he specify all 3 games he wanted? or did he just say "3 games, including a mario one?"

if the former, and the garfield one was one he had chosen I think that's fine.
if the latter and you chose the fgarfield yourself and feel he might be disappointed then take it back and swap for mario??

I think that getting him to use his money to buy it afterwards is a good idea though

He didn't say which 3 games. Mario has only been mentioned since I bought the other 2 (I "sold" one to my mum to give to him). I think he'll love Garfield. The 2 games I got were BOGOF so can't swap for Mario because it wasn't part of the offer.

I'm going to go and look at all the things I've got for him. That should help me decide what to do. I'm sure after one look at the mountain of presents I'll be putting my purse safely back in my bag!!

And.......I bet, out of all the presents he gets, his favourite thing will be the £2.50 glasses with wobbly eyes!!!!

I think that if he really wants Mario which is a good game IMO you should try and get it for him if money isn't too tight. You say you 'sold' your mum one, could you not use those proceeds to buy Mario?

gingernutlover · 18/12/2008 20:03

to be fair - and maybe i'm being mean - his list has 5 items on it, not 3 3 NDS games doesnt really count as 1 item does it! I'm sure he'll love what you have got him and getting him to spend his xmas money on the mario game is a really good idea too.

oh well then I would definitely leave it. like you say, he'll have plenty of stuff and he'll enjoy going out and spending his christmas money too

mogs0 · 18/12/2008 20:44

I've just been to look at his pile and the other ds game (from my Mum) is Kung-fu panda which I know he'll love too so am going to leave the Mario game and he can go and buy it after Christmas if he still really wants it.

Ginger - you're right, 3 games doesn't count as 1 item. Wishful thinking on his part!! His original list had about 20 things on it and everytime he's anywhere near an Argos catalogue all I hear is "can I have that game?" "oooh, can I have that one?" "I really love that one".

Thanks for your opinions wise MNers!!!
