Bitter cranberry sauce? Have I done something wrong?

I am doing Christmas dinner for my family this year and made my cranberry sauce this evening (trying to get as much as possible done in advance). It seemed to have a really bitter aftertaste - I know that cranberries are sour, but this didn't seem quite right. I am wondering if I have fecked up by putting in orange zest/a few cloves/cinnamon, though can't see how any of these things would make it bitter unless it's a stray orange pip or something. Otherwise it's just cranberries, water, sugar and orange juice. Do I have to start again or does that sound about right? Or should I just get them all pissed on mulled wine when they get here and hope they don't notice?

Cheers - I did put a load more in but then worried I was going to make it way too sweet and thought maybe it was supposed to be like that. Made DH taste it but he's no bloody good because he doesn't like cranberries. Maybe I'll get my mum to taste before serving up on the day

I am usually quite good at cooking too!

Yes, you didn't buy some ready made by Ocean Spray.

I may have to resort to that
