How do I find out if DP already has this (sheet) music?

My sister suggested getting my DP a particular Billy Joel songbook for Xmas. I genuinely don't know if he's got this or not.

Yes, you'd think I could just look through the music box & piano stool but our house is currently chaotic with loads of boxes with sheet music - have looked through and can't see it, but this doesn't mean he doesn't have it, might just be somewhere inaccessible. I can't remember him ever playing it but that also doesn't mean he doesn't have it.

Any suggestions of cunning ways I can find out without it being a big giveaway?

Just buy it and ask the shop for a gift receipt and check it can be exchanged if he doesn't have it.

Can you do that if you buy it on amazon?
