As a child we always had an angel - one of those old fashioned ones with a funny fuzzy dolls head and skirt made of nylon. However, the first year of living with DH we went out and bought all of our Christmas decos and he grabbed a big gold star. In his family it was always a star. I'm sat here now and tbh, it bothers me. Just doesn't look quite right. I'm thinking of buying an angel and sneaking it onto the tree - don't think DH would really care either way. Just wondered what the general consensus here is?

I alternate each year.
I have red and gold decs which is the star (out this year) and then I have purple and silver which is an angel.

Angel, I have a lovely rattan type Oxfam angel. I've had it 14 years.

tissy · 08/12/2008 18:56

Star

SummatAnNowt · 08/12/2008 19:15

We have a stuffed toy Snowman because the pointy spire thing I got one year broke and I needed to have something on top immediately. It has now become a fixture!

But if I had to pick between a star and angel, well as a kid we had a star.

TheVirginGoober · 08/12/2008 19:21

Star.

Milliways · 08/12/2008 19:23

Star!

We used to have Angels but they all seem naff now. We have a nice wired star and thread the end of the fairy lights inside it.

weepootle · 08/12/2008 19:27

We've always had a star because I've never seen an angel I liked but I've now swapped it for a lovely primitive angel I got at a Christmas market the other night.

starbear · 08/12/2008 19:35

Angel. Since puting up my own tree minature tree Before Marriage, it's been an angel. I agree very difficult to find the perfect angel. So I've brought every year, hoping it would work. Now have lots of angels around the family tree. I could not change to an star now after all that hard work. We have a golden angel.

MotherChristmas2OliverJames · 08/12/2008 19:36

i dint have anything on the top of my tree, it is a fibre optic tree where the optics go into baubles and there is one at the top so an angel or star just doesnt sit right.

i would have an angel though if i could put one on!

starbear · 08/12/2008 19:36

Sorry mashed up sentence You get my drift!

Cies · 08/12/2008 19:38

Nothing at the moment! I need to buy a star tomorrow

FrostyTheSnowMin · 08/12/2008 19:42

Given the choice, star, but usually we have a Christmas Snoopy. However he seems to have done a runner so this year it's a polar bear, kind of garrotted to the top of the tree with a rubber band...

OhGetOverMyself · 09/12/2008 07:01

We have got a huge golden bird made of real feathers. it's been a permanent fixture for about 8 years maybe.

Saves worrying about stars and angels!! everyone loves it.

OhGetOverMyself · 09/12/2008 07:04

Oh and a partridge lower down

Golden bird is currently diving off in a rather worrying fashion. It's hard to get it to stand up with two little wire things on its feet!

cremolafoam · 09/12/2008 07:27

angel

EightiesChick · 09/12/2008 08:07

I grew up with a star and would prefer it but you can't seem to get them anymore with 6 points like a proper Star of Bethlehem (yes, I am obsessive about this), only 5. So I avoid disappointment and go for an angel. I've got a gold one and a silver one so I can switch depending on what colour scheme I'm in the mood for.

flamesparrow · 09/12/2008 08:16

Angel made by me out of a barbie when I first moved out

fruitful · 09/12/2008 08:24

Small fluffy turquoise dragon

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 09/12/2008 08:38

We have an angel who DD insists is a fairy

fatjac · 09/12/2008 09:34

Has to be a fairy. I bought a lovely one the first year DH and I were together 17 years ago. She has porcelain hands and face and Christmas wouldn't be the same without her.

We always had a fairy when I was growing up. I was devastated a few years ago when my mum got rid of all the Christmas tree decorations including the fairy who must have been at least 40 years old. She bought one of those horrible multi coloured fibre optic things which came complete with its own flashing star!

However when my DS was about 3 he wanted a star and picked this horrible gaudy gold thing. This has pride of place on the other tree that the boys decorate themselves.

BellsCarolsNSleighs · 09/12/2008 09:43

Fairy here and she has to have a tree light stuck up her skirt so she glows.. and yes the bitch is a spy!!!

starbear · 09/12/2008 10:05

Oh yes, My Angel has to have a light up her dress on stuck to the back of her head.
