and couldn't afford a big present for DP even though he really wants an BOX 360 would you order from Littlewoods to get one?

It's £3.50 a week say £15 a month interest free over a year(will be paid by then) at £159 overall so no biggy I reckon but would you anyway rather than buying something at £0 which will probably never get touched.

If it was a DC I probably would but not for DH/P - he's old enough to understand that we are skint.

LilRedWG · 04/11/2008 16:00

Unless you can afford the monthly repayments easily, in which case I'd say go for it (just noticed you said % free).

FrockHorror · 04/11/2008 16:02

Same boat here. DH has been banging on about a Wii since last year so have ordered one on my friend's catalogue with a repayment of £5 per week. I can manage that and he will be thrilled. Kind of makes up for the £5 jumper he got last year from DD and I

mamadiva · 04/11/2008 16:03

Lilredwig yeah thats what I thought but like I say he did have one but it got broken when we moved house and cant afford another one but I thought since its interest free and all plus it only works out £30 more than shops so I dont know...

he did like his 360 I have to admit he got it when he was 18 so is a bit lost without it now when hes not at work or wanting to chill out for a bit when Im out and DS is in bed.

And then you've got to buy games...no i wouldn't buy it.

mamadiva · 04/11/2008 16:10

We have hundreds of games as we had one before dont need them just the console we even have the hard drive thingy as it comes off the console so took it when it broke but all we need is the basic console anyway.

I read somewher that 1 in 4 adults are still paynig for last years presents. £159 + is a lot of money !

A lot of the probs with the credit crunch is those who want, see, buy and then can't pay for it, jsut because money has been cheap up til now. A 360Xbox is a luxury.

Just cos it's christmas doesn't mean that you suddenly have money to burn.

compo · 04/11/2008 16:17

no sorry
nothing is bought on credit
If we can't afford it we can't have it

mamadiva · 04/11/2008 16:23

Well thanks everyone have decided just to get it. Dont think I'll get a better offer everything else is paid for just this one so not really a problem. We cant afford it no but I cna afford the monthly repayments so it works out well for us.

You were never really going to be swayed were you mamadiva?

mamadiva · 04/11/2008 16:32

I was

I was looking at it whilst talking though think that may have been the problem.

I normally dont do catalogues but got littleoods a while back because I lost alot of weight and couldnt afford decent clothes but the balance is only £30 so its not like its a sky high thing

No way would I put myself into any sort of financial hardship / debt to get my Dh a luxury item.

captainmummy · 04/11/2008 16:37

That;s ok mamadiva if you think you can justify it. What will you get for the dc? What will DH get for you?

I could (prob) afford £159 for an xbox, but I just wouldn't. Just cos it's christmas????? daft.

AuntieMaggie · 04/11/2008 16:45

No way.

AuntieMaggie · 04/11/2008 16:48

Is this the same DH that begrudges the 40 quid donation at xmas?

If your lo was a bit older I might have said maybe your ds could use it too, but no I wouldn't spend that on an xbox for my DP. Especially knowing that this time next year there will probably be something else released.

Marne · 04/11/2008 16:49

Dh wants a x-box too, i wouldn't get one unless we could afford it. Could you not get a 2nd hand one?

Tesco's were doing them cheep (dh informed me)

HuwEdwards · 04/11/2008 16:54

no way. Sorry mamad I'm sure your DP is lovely, but partners (male or female) suggesting presents for themselves that they clearly shouldn't splash out on, just sounds so infantile....
