How much do your parents spend on YOU

Just curious really, how much do your parents spend on you now that you're an adult with your own children etc?

How much do they spend on your children?

My mother doesn't get us anything, but I'm actually not sure how much my dad spends. Absolute top limit for his kids is probably about £30 as he gives us lots of freebies he has accumulated over the year, he would buy us 'big' things when we were kids every few years, but only if we needed/could really do with them at the time and there was no making sure amounts spent are even IYSWIM - so my sister got a laptop just after she started Uni and I got the same when I did.

I will be quite interested to see what he does about DP and JR when she arrives! I imagine DP will get a small token gift of some kind and Jr will get the same treatment my sis and I got as children.

You are not allowed to request gifts from my father though, so it is sometimes very awkward opening a pile of presents not one of which is useful/you would actually want... mind you he doesn't get much better from us since he won't say what he wants either! Bless him.

My Mum usually puts £100 in my bank. Then she'll spend about £10-20 on DP and about £40-50 each on DC's.
My Dad spends about £40 on me and £50 on each DC. Then buys DP a bottle of quality whiskey each year.
MIL spends a fortune on all of us. She trys to spend the same on all of us. Probably £100 each, maybe more on DC's.

she then spends £50 on each grandchild (and puts &50 in their bank accounts)

bless her, she saves hard all year!

mil, sometimes alot... sometimes nothing (a couple of years ago we got a cheque for £1000, last year the boys got some clothes)

my dad usually buys me a nice scarf or jumper from m&s aw bless him.

My parents about £30 each on us (and the dcs). MIL £50 on DH and zero on me.

We are all thoroughly spoilt by my parents and the PIL, but DPs family do go more crazy with xmas than mine do. Since I left home 2 years ago, my parents don't even bother with a xmas tree anymore!

Too much.

Especially when mum goes to Edinburgh Woollen Mills and buys the bloody shop or the Damart catalogue (no honestly!). Sometimes dad wins the battle and we get something useful but a bit dull like a new microwave. Occassionally we get really lovely new glasses but that's only when I specify what I want.

Not this year I hope. They are feeling the pinch.

Is it an interesting thread? I find it strangely irrating.

I do get presents from parents and inlaws but I have never sat down with a calculator and worked out how much they each spend. It is the thought that counts.

I asked my parents not to buy for me and dh as they're not very well off and have our dc to buy for. My mum usually makes up a small hamper of goodies for us though. They spend about £20 each on our dc. My in laws give me and dh a voucher, usually £40/50 for Asda, which is great for buying food in January when we're mega skint! They give our dc vouchers too, for Argos, which we keep to buy toys later in the year.

my mum and dad spend £50 ish on me and about the same on each of my four kids. my new dp will get a bottle of something yummy. my brother and sister get £100 each but they dont have kids so its understandable. oh and me and kids get £30 each for birthdays and sis and bro get £50 each. again understandable.
