is there any point in giving something like this for christmas. as all the things in the book are to do before xmas?

Depends on how old the person is. My daughter would probably love it but she is 6 and in P2. It is still x-mas until she goes back to school (being on x-mas holiday and all).

No, there's no point at all - the recipient will have to wait 11 months before it's of any use at all. Sorry.
