For the last decade or so i've sent my sister & her dh a Thornton's chocolate hamper present thing. thought it was a perfect present until my sis told me that BIL doesn't even like chocolate.... she was happy cos she had them all every year but effectively i didn't buy him anything, oops!

So, they live in France, am posting a small gift for them & 2 DDs. Have hairclips for the girls, may throw in some Euros, some Turkish Delight (she likes it, yuk!) for my sis. Now i need an idea for him.

He likes cars, motorbikes, NOT chocolate, lol.
he's a rocket scientist, no really!
Price isn't really the issue, though obv i've not spent much on my sis, it's just the thought really.

A motorbike magazine?
An F1 calendar?
neither seem like a great idea but mind is blank....

answers on a postcard

how about one of these?

mewerewolvesarehowling · 15/10/2008 19:59

I think the calendar is a good idea - maybe a desk calendar. (Do rocket scientists have desks?)

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2008 20:07

desperate - hm, maybe, though thinking about my BIL wearing that is nigh on illegal surely

a desk calendar, could do, he must have a desk(?), will have to look in whsmith/type places for choices.

some executive type desk toy? or are they naff?

Don't most people use their computers/mobile phones as a calender these days?

Up to date family photo?

Book? Biography on someone like an astronaut or pilot? Or maybe just a humorous book.

cd/dvd?

designer socks?

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2008 20:28

desperate - you may be right about the calendars.
the truth be told i don't know him very well, so not sure about taste in socks/music/reading
he's not that easy to get to know.
i know he likes restoring furniture - french obv.
he likes good wine - again french obv.
his daughters.
his job.
my sis (hopefully ).
skiing.
scraping barrel now...

a biography maybe. may browse on amazon later...

thing is, if they were in this country it wouldn't matter so much as i'd know he could return it, but over there he can't.

argh. may just cheat and email my sis!!

Bil's are the worst to buy for imho.

My Bil buys all his own clothes and anything else he wants and has much more money than us but at least he likes gardening. So he usually ends up with something to do with that.

How about a bottle stopper?

Or I have seen some candles that are like corks and you stick them into an empty bottle as a candle stick.

Will see if I can find a link.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 15/10/2008 20:51

here

Or something else wine related?

English cheese?

Can you tell I'm bored? I should be thinking about presents for my family!!

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2008 20:54

Have emailed my sister in desperation!!

i like the candles though, so thanks for that idea
