I haven't been "invited" to book mine yet but I haven't been a very loyal customer lately! Has anyone booked their slot yet?

They invited me to book mine and I took a look at the delivery charges and though 'sod that for a game of tennis'.

GrapefruitMoon · 14/10/2008 11:58

Why, what were they charging?

I haven't been invited yet! I hadn't even thought about it but it sounds a sensible plan.
GrapefruitMoon are you a Tom Waits fan by any chance?

GrapefruitMoon · 14/10/2008 12:26

Yes - love your name!

Thank you! It's my favourite album I think. But your name is one of my favourite songs - love it!
Off to play it now....

GrapefruitMoon · 14/10/2008 12:31

Yes Raindogs is great - can't believe how old it is (and therefore how old I am!) though

but tom is the BEST! I'm 32 though so I don't remember it from when it relesased. He's timeless

GrapefruitMoon · 14/10/2008 19:29

Sadly I do remember it from when it was first out! And "Martha" always makes me cry...

how much were the delivery charges then?

Im curiouse

Raindog · 15/10/2008 12:25

Actually I'm curious about the charges too (despite being sidetracked by Tom Waits)

GrapefruitMoon - have you heard of an album called 'temptation' by Holly Cole? She's a Canadian jazz singer who did a whole album of TW covers a good few years ago. There's a gorgeous version of 'The Briar and the Rose' and at the start is a horn section piece which always makes me think of Christmas.

Marina · 15/10/2008 14:33

£9.99

nannyL · 15/10/2008 20:29

at £9.99

Ocado delivery charges are crazy at the mo.
Some are £8 just for a normal evening, 9 for xmas is a joke.
Until Ocado wake up and smell the credit crunch I have changed to Sainsburys.

Raindog · 16/10/2008 10:08

It sounds a lot, but then again if it means I don't need to trudge through the supermarket before Christmas with everyone fighting over the last carrots and ramming their trolleys into my ankles whilst the lights glare down in that weird 24 hour daylight glow then that's definitely worth a tenner!

What is going on with Ocado Christmas delivery slots?? They haven't opened up for me yet. Are they only currently available to 'On Demand' customers...??

I agree that some of their slots are expensive, but I always manage to avoid those, generally. Bear in mind, though, that the structure of the company - warehouse not shop based - means that they have very few unavailable and / or substituted items at the time of delivery, because stock is updated rapidly to the website from the warehouse. And they guarantee minimum shelf life. As opposed to some personal shopper going round a store on the day of your order, taking pot luck with everyone else and supplying you with the last - heavily spotted - banana, or wilted cabbage.

I'd pay extra for that on Christmas Eve.

The last time I ordered from Tesco (to a self-catering holiday cottage), they charged £5 for a lot of items to be missing and a lot of others to have only a day on their sell-by. Really shoddy.

Playdough · 22/10/2008 16:21

Oh thank you for reminding me about 'Martha' ... it is just such a wonderful song ... always makes me cry too ...

Sorry to digress.

I did an Ocado Christmas delivery last year and it was well worth it. Lovely quality stuff and so fantastic not to have to fight for miserable dried sprouts with all the other shoppers. But their charges weren't so steep last year. Probably will still try to get a delivery slot booked this weekend tho.

GrapefruitMoon · 22/10/2008 17:07

I just checked when I was "invited" last year to place my Christmas order and it was early November... fingers crossed they won't forget to invite me this year...
