My daughter has a box of Christmas picture books which we normally bring out on the first December and read one or two each night. Now she has reached 8 she reads to herself voraciously each night and we have dropped reading to her but I don’t want to loose the Christmas tradition of a box of books to read together but the books we have are getting too young.
I have gathered a few books already such as The Christmas Pig and How Winston saved Christmas but they are longer books and I was hoping for suggestions for books that can be read in one evening but are fun for an 8 year old. I think I am hoping to still have 24 books so a couple of longer ones and lots of smaller ones . Can anyone recommend anything ?
We have Father Christmas needs a wee and the jolly Christmas postman which I think will still be enjoyed but can’t think of any others .

Do you have “the lion, the unicorn, and me?”. It’s one of my favourites. It’s a picture book but I enjoy it and I’m 54.

There is an Enid Blyton collection of Christmas short stories, and a few Moomin ones by Tove Jannson.

A favourite with my DC was Christmas in Exeter Street by Diana Hendry

How about "you choose Christmas" but Pippa Goodhart edition? My 8 year old and 10 year old still love that one, talking about what they'd choose and why.

The Little Advent Fairy book by Sarah Cubitt is a must. It’s beautifully illustrated and a story of kindness and joy at advent. It will make you feel very warm inside! It’s a similar concept to elf on the shelf, but there’s no doll to move about & no labour or set up required. Kind & cute things happen overnight & it’s just lovely. Enjoy all the reading, such a lovely idea to have lots of festive books to bring out :)

If it is still in print, Christmas According To Humphrey by Betty Birney would be worth a look. Humphrey is the classroom hamster in a US junior school.
Also fun is The Twelve Cats of Christmas. I don’t remember the author. It’s a picture book, but great fun to sing along to. There is probably an actual Twelve Days of Christmas version too!
I can’t recommend any, but a Christmas joke book might be a bit different.

Mr Christmas and Little Miss Christmas from the Mr Men series by Roger Hargreaves would be good.
If she likes Rainbow Fairies, I seem to remember that there were at least a couple of Christmas ones. I don’t remember the exact title, but the fairy was called Holly. There was also Crystal the Snow Fairy.
There are also lots of abridged versions of A Christmas Carol which would be fine for 8 year olds.

There are some beautiful picture books that are suitable for this age. Kid Christmas and the Klaus brothers toy shop (think that's the title) is just lovely as is Dasher. How the Grinch stole Christmas is another good one, especially if she is familiar with the film. For longer stories, as read step father Christmas and how Winston delivered Christmas last year and also the Christmasaurus books are really good
