Ideas for useful and fun Christmas stocking fillers for young children

what are some really cool/ useful Christmas stocking fillers ? Lets say 4 items each. I really don’t want tat but I can’t think of anything fun and different.

My kids love an electric toothbrush. I get the character ones from home bargains. My 8 year old is also monopoly mad and there are loads of different themed ones on vinted for cheap! I just got a brand new grogu one for £6 x x x

I’ve got a packet of snap cards for this year so far. Previously had toothbrushes, socks, Jacob’s ladder, sweets, temp tattoos, yo yo’s

A mug

Torch
Little LED novelty bedside lights
Character based insulated lunch bag or lunch box
Nice mug that suits their interests
Book - maybe how to identify birds, stars, dinosaurs etc
Child sized but functional and fun cooking implements (those coloured silicone ones)

Remote control car watch
bath bombs with toys in
character cutlery - paw patrol or whatever
colouring book with water pen

Best age for stockings! Travel games - different one each so they can share on longer journeys, dream catcher, personalised baubles, craft items, bubble bath, character perfume/spray e.g Disney, Spiderman etc will be in Boots, hair accessories, character socks, chocolate Santa and coins, 'forbidden' treats (mine always get jar of Nutella in bottom of stocking as we don't buy it usually...cause I will eat it😳)

As well as the great advice above.. I would add that tat is only tat if you never use it again..

Get a box.. call it your stocking box or something.. when the kids get bored of the small things that you put in their stockings, put them in the box. Each year, get the box out in the build up to Christmas and watch them relive the memories and find that "tat" fun again for a day or so each year. The contents will grow, and it's enjoyable even for teenagers who can remince about the Christmas when they were 7 and there was a ... In their stocking.

We usually include a selection of something along the lines of: a small craft set, a game that can be played on the day, a new book, Lush bath bomb, fun socks, notebook and fancy pen, stickers, hair accessories. None of it is tat, just things that can be used and loved.

I love this idea - I can imagine being a kid and getting excited about the stocking box coming out (maybe at the same time as the decorations!)

Novelty shaped sponges went down well with mine, as did chalk pens (if you've got a good place to use them) and those magic invisible ink pens. Also hair stuff, bath bombs, stickers and craft bits.

I remember having a butterfly soap in a Christmas stocking that was so beautiful I refused to use it!

At that age mine loved Top Trumps

A slinky, a yo-yo, play dough, chocolate coins

• Pez dispenser and sweets - do a different one each year.
• Crazy foam soap as mentioned above.
• Little pack of fun/bang snaps (the ones you throw on the floor that explode).
• A practical joke - again, a new one each year. EBay are good for joke shop stuff.
• Lego polybag - eg car or Christmas theme. Simple to build themselves

As a child I loved knowing that each year my stocking would have the same things in, but a different version/theme each year like a chocolate orange, magazine, Pez, bath bomb. I do it for my child now and he seems to enjoy it too.

I recently posted this on another thread, but I would recommend the game Go Find It (you can buy it online from the Sensory Trust shop) - really brilliant around the age 3-5 mark especially and great to take out on a walk. Plan Toys mini range is also good and they make great toys for travel or being out and about.

Other suggestions are mini jigsaws, a homemade DIY gingerbread men kit (plain mini gingerbread men, writing icing and small sweets), stickers, bar of soap in a fun shape, personalised pencils (useful for school!), a fun cookie cutter for making biscuits.

Character T-shirt/jumper. I normally refused to buy them but they are from Father Christmas :-) It also takes up a decent amount of space.

A lot of my usuals have already been mentioned. The following have also gone down well:

• Character plasters (mine enjoy a placebo plaster, particularly when they should be in bed)
• Cupcake cases / writing icing / Sprinkles
• Box of tissues - Asda has Stitch ones
• Cress / Sunflower / Wildflower seeds

Pull back car/plane/shark etc - this was the surprise hit last year and they spent ages having races
I've got mine (2 and 4 so younger than yours but possibly some overlap)

Total cost about £25 per stocking. I love the box of stocking tat idea! We sort of do this already with party bag tat and it's great for a rainy afternoon

Love the Go Find it recommendation above. I'll be getting that!

I've bought flavoured toothpaste (banana, chocolate etc) in the past. I think from Amazon.
If your DC lust after fizzy drinks and sugary cereal, but aren't usually allowed it, a (small) can or a box of Cocoa Pops.
Grufflalo bubble bath and shampoo went down well. I'm sure more characters are available.
My nephew and niece always wanted their own roll of sellotape in their stockings. I think they still get them now, at 40+! Ditto with packets of blue tack.
Sticker book, or comic.
Fake tattoos. Wash out hair dye.
New Sylvanian family, or small Playmobil set, if they are into that.
Fancy swirly straw.
Cut out dolls with cut out clothes for the 4 year old. I can't think what they are called!
Joke book.
Paint by numbers set.
Top Trumps.
Set of Dominoes.

I got my 4 year old girl Disney princess dobble from Temu for around a fiver, The works always have little craft kids for £1-2 too like decorate a crown or make a clay animal. Bath bombs are good, new pens, hair slides, torch, a character sponge, character socks and chocolate!
