Hello! As the title says - I’m looking for inspiration please!

I always do a Christmas Eve buffet for family. There’s only 6 of us. But often I fill a good portion of the table with M&S party food. I’d like to make more homemade food this year - just not rating the price or the taste any more of the M&S party range. I can cook, and do cook, so please share your buffet ideas below, including a recipe if possible please 🙏 Thank you 🎄

Homemade pizza. Im sure that doesn't need a recipe, if making dough is not on the agenda you can make it with scones.

Yesterday I saw a recipe on the Pioneer Woman which was cream cheese mixed with soft goats cheese, made into a cone and rolled in green herbs, I also saw the same "recipe" but they made it ino a ball abd rolled it in pomegranate seeds.

Sticky sausages always go down a treat in our house!

Cook sausages in a mixture of equal
parts honey, soy sauce and sesame oil. They’re delicious!

Home made sausage rolls. Favourites in our house are sausage and haggis, sausage and black pudding and sausage, chorizo and chilli jam. Ritz crackers or blinis topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon and chives. A cheese and meats grazing board. Satay chicken skewers with a peanut sauce. King prawn, chorizo and tomato skewers with a pesto drizzle. Then a huge pavlova or homemade mince pies and an open box of quality street for something sweet. These are our family faves! Just Google and you’ll find recipes online.

Was going to say sticky sausages, we do ours in honey and mustard. I'm thinking this year of doing a sort of wreath of sticky sausages, maybe plain or sweet chilli and pigs in blankets and some dipping sauces. Also a baked camembert and some nice bread. I have seen someone doing mini Yorkshire puddings with brie and cranberry and a pig in blankets. Also seen it done with a hash brown cup. I always go completely overboard so trying not to this year so we don't have waste!

I don't understand the sticky sausages. Can the mixture get hot enough to fry them brown, without burning?

Happyinheels · 18/12/2025 12:49

Loving these ideas thank you! I do a gorgeous baked Camembert with apples and cranberries. I cook it with slices of baguette around it to form a wreath shape and they come out toasty and crisp to use for dipping into the Camembert. I also do a lovely chicken and broccoli wreath - both Pampered Chef recipes!

I do mine in the oven. Start them off for 5-10 minutes then add a mixture of honey and mustard. They are delicious! I think they'd burn if you fried them

I was thinking about some mini Yorkshire puddings as I’ve got a lovely little dinky tray. And using some of the roast beef, simmer it in gravy and then trying to concoct it into a stylish piece to fit in the Yorkshire pudding 😆

Tom Kerriage’s recipe for sausage rolls always gets compliments when I make them ! Google recipe 🥰
Also quiche always goes down well too , homemade coleslaw and potato salad , homemade dips and crudités

Iknowdino · 18/12/2025 12:53

Ooh yes roast beef in a mini Yorkshire pud sounds lovely! I'm not sure I have a try small enough to do little dinky ones, will have to see what I can find. Good luck with your styling 🤣

I put them in the oven, not fry!

Brie and cranberry mini tarts, filo pastry cut into squares use a muffin tin and layer a couple of squares and add a chunk of Brie and a dollop of cranberry.
For a sweet treat my kids like the Nutella Christmas tree.

Happyinheels · 18/12/2025 14:26

Fab!! I’m list making as this thread continues! There are some really lovely ideas thank you!

Use a mini muffin tin for mini yorkshires can use for mini pies too! I also pre buy canape cases on line and do red onion jam and parmesan , cream cheese and smoked salmon , mushroom mousse or brie and cranberry 😀

Happyinheels · 18/12/2025 16:03

Oooo they sound delicious @Lovetocook49

I think a large honey glazed ham is the perfect thing for a buffet!

Loving all the suggestions, making notes 😀

Happyinheels · 18/12/2025 16:36

So this is my list so far:

Baked Ham
Bread, cheeses, meats
Baked Camembert with cranberries and apple, toasted baguette slices for dipping
Sticky Sausages (TikTok swallowed my last hour!)
Tom’s sausage rolls
Mini Yorkies and roast beef
Mango Salsa and crudities
Brie and cranberry tarts
Mini pizzas

Scouring for a quiche recipe, a Tzatziki recipe, and a fail safe coleslaw recipe. Oh and maybe a chicken wings recipe?

I love the sound of the smoked salmon dishes but there’s only 2 guests who I think would eat them.

Lovetocook49 · 18/12/2025 18:32

BBC recipes for coleslaw and quiche work well , just remember to properly blind bake the pastry. Tzatziki is dead easy - don’t worry!
I’d miss out chicken wings , as I have found out lots of people are funny about eating off the bone ?
Mini yorkshires with beef and horseradish works well 😀

Everything here sounds amazing and your menu looks fab. I’d be tempted to add a salad or some vegetables (I am assuming it’s a fork buffet given you are serving ham and not just finger food). This is delicious, can be made ahead and I think the colours look a little Christmassy https://www.nigella.com/recipes/guests/pomegranate-and-aubergine-salad-with-harissa-and-sun-dried-tomatoes

@Lovetocook49 ah ok, thanks for that. I’ll leave them then!

@BangingOn That sounds amazing! Thank you so much. Yes it’s definitely a fork buffet - I have been looking at salads and rice dishes as an accompaniment. I found a Spanish potato salad recipe that sounds nice but really liking the sound of yours - thank you.

@Happyinheels you’re very welcome, it’s become my go to when entertaining as it looks fancy with minimal effort.
