I’m running out of time and ideas for that 53 year old man who can buy himself the best of everything and I have a very modest budget of £25 - £30.
if asked he says he doesn’t want /need anything but nowt is not an option. All suggestions welcome.

What’s he into?

NuffSaidSam · 12/12/2025 10:42

If he reads a book or two is a good option. Particularly if you can find something in his wheelhouse that he might not have heard of.

Or some kind of gadget. As above with the book.

Or something sentimental if you have that kind of relationship with him.

Or a jigsaw.

Nice or funny boxers from Oddballs/Bawbags?
the amusing pickled onions from chuckling cheese (although be wary of delivery…) - ring stingers, fart blasters etc

you can get a book of Dangerous Experiments for After Dinner - someone recommended it on here and I got it for DB

lwgo F1 racing car/ other hobby

M&S letter box hamper

books

leather gloves

any vinyl albums from a favourite band

whisky/gin/vodka

packing cubes and a power bank if he travels

fancy olive oil/balsamic vinegar/ spice kit if he cooks

jigsaw of home city/favourite place

airtag

GooseyGandalf · 12/12/2025 10:52

skinny reading glasses that you can carry in your phone case or attached to your phone

an endoscope camera that connects to a phone

a magnetic wrist band so screws don’t get lost while tinkering or fixing things

There’s a failing eyesight theme going on here! In case his vision is still 20:20

Nicer socks: Cushion soles socks, soft stretchy bamboo socks, or socks with a wider less pinchy elastic top depending on preference

I made my impossible to buy for husband a charging kit for travelling, with longer leads, fast flat charger, etc.

A small lego set

a home made edible treat

a coupon for a chat/visit/garden advice session/invitation to dinner with you at a time of his choosing

Why is nowt not an option? What sort of relationship is it? What does he buy you?

He'd almost certainly wish you didn't bother because that creates an obligation for him to buy you something, which he'd probably rather not do.

But if you're adamant you're buying him a gift and he drinks spirits, what about a nice bottle of Whisky, gin, rum or whatever it is that he drinks?

OMGitsnotgood · 12/12/2025 11:06

If he really doesn’t need anything I‘d go for consumables. Does he drink? If so, there are lots of offers on spirits and wine at the moment.
if not, a collection of his favourite biscuits, snacks, sweets.
Or if you don’t want consumables:
if he cooks and you can see what he’s already got, a cookery book.
A jumper or shirt
If he’s a walker, new walking socks are always lovely to wear, with a book of local walks. We‘ve got one that has walks that start and end at a pub.

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2025 11:06

I’d get down to majestics and spend the money on a nice bottle of red/white wine.

Illgotothefootofourstairs · 12/12/2025 11:36

To answer a few questions….this is my son whose income is 10x mine. He is incredibly generous . I have a couple of things I know he’ll love but just want an extra. Needs to be a clever and thoughtful rather than costly choice. A few good ideas here already !

Does he like cheese?
I'm getting a lucky dip Christmas box from Appleby Creamery for my DH.
