My mother is 95 and would definitely not appreciate a lap tray! She sits at her breakfast room table for all her meals. We will get her hand cream, bath stuff, nice biscuits and chocolate, afternoon tea for two (with whomever bought it). One really successful present was a Skylight - we can all add photographs to it, and she has a kind of slide show of all the photographs (we have a large family). She also loves photograph albums, reads a lot, knits and crochets.

My DPs love their laptrays.
They sit at a proper table for breakfast but mainly have other meals in their nice warm sitting room.

They are all at different levels of frailty though. My Mum doesn't leave her chair and can't see to craft anymore. She uses a portable table to eat at but a lap tray might be nice for holding toys etc.

My dmil is nearly 93 and she doesn't want stuff to "moo up the house" as she puts it! So no knick-knacks.

I've got her a nice face cream, a jar of peaches in brandy, a jar of whisky marmalade, a little pocket torch incase of power cuts and some Bailey's chocs

I do crackers for everyone and hers has a miniature Baileys and a rainmate!

My son is doing one of those calendars you can create on line using family photos and a bottle of whisky!

Perhaps you needed to put Physically able, not frail in bold, @PeonyBlushSuede? 😂

I would take her to the opera.

(You’re very fortunate - the nonagenarian in my family is not really able to get out much, so will be getting some very lovely upgrades to bedding and soft furnishings so she can entertain in style at home.)

I am mid 50s in robust health owner of an v large table and currently using a lap tray to write Christmas cards. They’re not something to be ashamed of! If she hasn’t got one do consider it because they are handy.
Bulbs in a pot, goody bag with mini wine cheese and crackers, voucher for the theatre all very popular with our oldies (as they dubbed themselves).

That's a slightly mean reply, She already has Chanel no.5 and Youth Dew, which are her favorites, and wanted a small bottle of Rive Gauche for old times sake. They only do it now in a large spray which she wouldn't have wanted or needed, so I got her a 10ml sample. and if she ever finishes it I'll get her another one.

My mistake for writing favourite perfume.

My MIL is 94 and by far the most successful present I’ve got for her has been a flower subscription. Not cheap though!

She also enjoys books (could an Audible membership be an option if your Nan’s sight isn’t great?), and good quality knitwear. We often make those photobooks (from Popsa or wherever) of family holidays, events she’s been at etc and they go down very well.

She LOVES her heated throw.

We got her a couple of framed pictures one year, just after she’d had her living room decorated.

Afternoon tea, as a PP said.

An arm of the chair tray. Not sure what they are called but it’s like a tiny tray with folding legs that go over the arm of the couch or easy chair to put your stuff on.

Handcream.

Sunglasses that go over your normal reading or distance glasses for bright days so you don’t need to buy special sunglasses versions if your prescription.

An electric can and bottle opener. And somethimg to open!

Good house keeping subscription (could get an Alexa/audible if eye site not great)

The opera is a great idea. We’re all going with my 95 year old mother to the Nutcracker in London in early January as a group post Christmas outing.

Maybe a photo album with all the photos of her and the family you can get? Including her childhood ones, the pictures of her parents and grandparents if there are any, etc. If some photos are damaged or faded, you can contact photo stores to see if they can repair them or you can do it yourself, here are some tips for that. Then reprint them as a photobook or for a new album, add names and years if possible, maybe small notes if there is any important info, etc. We did it for my grandmother's 95th birthday, she loved the album immediately!

Yes … If she’s as hale and hearty as she sounds, book something for the spring. It’s nice to have an event to look forward to, and I wouldn’t want to take anyone elderly (even with all their jabs) into an auditorium during flu season.

I've got this for my ILs as a 'just because' present. They are only late 70s not 90s. But they love it! I'm in Ireland though and I'm not sure about delivery.

My neighbour is I think 94, the thing she likes the most is company so an experience if she is able

My Nan is 99 still sharp but very poor Vision and quite frail these days. This year I’ve made her a hamper basket filled with useful bit - mini baileys, licorice, mint imperials, new hankies, pop socks, nice marmalade. Last year I brought her a talking clock and she says it’s the most useful thing someone’s ever brought her. I’ve brought her an alexa in the past too and she likes that for listening to the radio and again checking the time. Tricky when they get older.

hotter slippers are a nice gift too but she doesn’t need those currently

@TheApocalypticiansApprenticeI appreciate this. She has the mobility and activity level of someone easily 20 years younger - she’s even just started volunteering to keep herself busy! She is very independent (aka stubborn!)

if it weren’t for her eyesight (which she is waiting on treatment for) she would be doing even more
